More from Crime on the Streets
Port Hueneme police made an arrest on Monday in connection with the 17-day-old killing of an Oxnard man.
Police arrested Jose Alcaraz Guerrero, 19, of Port Hueneme, about 1:50 p.m.
Guerrero is suspected in the killing of Kyle Swartz, police said.
Swartz, 18, died early on the morning of June 13 after he was stabbed multiple times during a street fight in Port Hueneme next to Naval Base Ventura County.
Police said some of those involved in the fight belonged to rival "tagging crews." Still, investigators suspect the fight stemmed from a personal dispute, police said.
Guerrero was arrested without incident at Moranda Park in Port Hueneme following what police said was "an intensive two-week investigation."
Guerrero was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Detention facility, where he was being held on $500,000 bail Monday afternoon.
Investigators suspect more people might have witnessed the fight. They are asking anyone with information about the fight to contact Robert Albertson, a senior officer with Port Hueneme police, at 986-6644.

This killer is a hero now among his peers and you can bet he has some "street cred" with his gang and the barrio in spades. He's probably so proud of himself that he did this and got caught, too. Now he can go to prison, get a tattoo marking his conquest (the taking of another life), pump weights for the next 25 years to life (he'll be out in five and killing again because of prison overcrowding), and live the hero thug life. This is their mentality...they do it all for mi familla and kill without batting an eye.

whooohooo!!! This is no "man". He is coward that has no regard for human life. I want to look in his eyes the day he is sentenced. I want to see his freedom taken from him. It will never compare to what he has taken from us. Good job Hueneme PD!! This will go a long way in giving his family a little peace by knowing someone will pay and cannot hurt someone else.

I'm glad they finally caught someone! Hopefully if there is more they will catch them too.

Great job PHPD, you guys/gals don't get enough credit. Hopefully we don't see any unsubstantiated comments from AnaCapa on here.

I wonder what the "personal dispute" was that PHPD was referring to? Where are VC Star's "investigative reporters"? Don't they have any? It seems all we get is regurgitated words from a PD press release... no questions asked. Rather than reporters, it might be more accurate to describe Star staff as "Press Release Transferers"! I guess newspapers are too afraid of being sued, so they choose not to investigate and report. Too bad.

Tagging crews? Get a job and a life. Worthless losers. Have some pride in your community! Good job PHPD...lock them all up!!!

It's too bad they were "arrested without incident". I would have rather they resisted and were met with deadly violence. We need the PHPD to hire the Boondock Saints.

I just wanta say that I'm glad there was finally an arrest made in the stabbing, and I hope the Swartz family can move on after this unfortuniate situation. He will be missed. As for the commnet made by clementine and lilmama
I cant believe those word even came out your mouth. I do not like the things tagging crews do but on thing I do know is that they are far from stupid and they do come from good families, they are just making the wrong decision in their life. As for the tagging crew you can believe that alot of them do have jobs and they don't live in shacks. People need to stop throwing stones because they dont live in a glass house. Do your research before you open your mouth. I wanta give thanks to the bat waving guy who was trying to defend his friend. He did the best he could to stop what was happening. Now he lives in a beautiful home, with familt that loves him and he has a job and works in a family business. GOD BLESS YOU AND THE SWARTZ FAMILY.

Why doesn't the paper post their mugshots?!?!?!??
They don't deserve privacy!

(tagging crew)? Is this a new PC catch phrase to hinder the DA not to charge the accused of a Gang related Hate Crime? It must be just a coincidence that a young white male was bruitaly attacked by (4) young latino's. Who just happened to be in the neighborhood. And carrying atleast one knife... I guess that is a special tool for those PC termed (tagging crews). I am so glad that I moved my family out of Southern California. But, I am deeply saddened that my Family and I have lost our Beautiful Nephew Kyle Swartz. I know he is in a better place. I hope to see him soon....

Posted by axel718 on July 4, 2008 at 3:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Ex-Calli.... To qualify as a criminal street gang, the gang has to meet several predicate acts involving specific crimes. Most tagging crews do not meet that criteria therefore the street terrorism enchancement can not be charged. Unfortunately that is the law in California

i didnt relize that there were so many racist people on this!!
im mexican, not in a gang, not from a krew and have been living in hueneme for the past 16 years. I dont worry about getting stabed or shot because im not putting myself in that position, getting in fights in the middle of the night.
A young life lost is tragic, no matter what. But dont forget that the other kid involved had a family too. And now his mom gates to deal with the fact that her son is looking at life in prison. For someting SHE DID NOT TEACH HIM!!!!
And why did everyone forget about the kid that got shot in the head on clara. Because he lived or because he was mexican??
That was an act of gang/tagger violence.
HHHHMMMMMM!!!!!! Weird!

Frist of all i am deeply sorry for your family's loss. no one should have to deal with their younger loved ones death. And i do care about what happened. i live right around the corner from where this happened. my neices go to school right down the street, and my family has been touched before with gang violence before. I'm not saying what he did was good, acually just the oppisite. but you don't have to put "all us people" in the same group as some dumb kid who did this terrible crime. Forgive me for being as little judgemental, but my family IS affected by this and we don't want this on our streets. I'm sorry but i never met a juggalo that i liked.

My sincere sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Kyle Swartz, but you people do not know anything about Jose Guerrero. He is not a "waste of life." He was raised properly by a devoted mother and probably has better knowledge of the English language than any of you. He completed college courses before graduating from high school. He has volunteered his services to the community. How about attending the trial before convicting him?
Posted by axel718 on July 16, 2008 at 11:14 a.m. (Suggest removal)
distracted....he was raised properly?? If he was not the stabber then maybe he should pick a better class of friends to be hanging out with? What community services does he provide at 3:30 in the morning?
Posted by axel718 on July 16, 2008 at 11:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)
sk8hueneme........on one hand you are calling everyone a racist. Yet you then turn around and say that you never met a juggalo that you liked. Sounds like you are berating people for passing judgement. Yet you are doing the same thing.
Bottom line is this, 98% of the gangs / taggers in Ventura County are Hispanic. For one of these losers to stab or shoot another person is unacceptable. If they choose to do so then if they are convicted and depending on the circumstances they should be executed. Our prisons and jails are overcrowded with gang members that have murdered yet they are still able to carry out gang activities from prison. The only way to stop it is to eliminate them.
Posted by distracted on July 17, 2008 at 8:09 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Axel718, you better believe he was raised properly. I've known this kid since he was 8 years old. If he is guilty, my heart is sickened. But he deserves a fair trial just as every other American citizen before he is convicted by the community. Of course, he should not have been where he was at that time time. Teenagers are like that. But cops are human and sometimes they make mistakes by getting the wrong guy (I pray in this case). It feels good when someone is arrested for a terrible crime, even better when there's a conviction and sentencing. But the trial will determine whether they've got the right guy. That's why we have that big building on Victoria Ave full of lawyers and judges and jurors. And can you blame your mother for every bad choice you ever made? No need to condemn a person's family if they screw up (no offense, this "screwup" was worse than horrible).
Posted by sk8huenemeCA on July 17, 2008 at 12:33 p.m. (Suggest removal)
First off I never called "everyone" a racist, and not liking juggalos is not racist at all. They are a group of misguided kids following a band with no type of moral or ethical insight what so ever. The music they make is crap, wait its worse than that. and everyone who is spreading their propaganda is just as messed up as "violent J" and Shaggy to dope" are. And Axel718 Being prejudice is hating someone for something they cannot change not disliking a group that makes kids think its cool to run around acting a fool in the name of some face painted morons from detriot. I know when i go to concert, I want to get sprayed with cheap soda and beat someone up. Right?
NO!!!!!!
I don't know where you get your stats from but i've seen white and black kids that live here in oxnard and hueneme too. and don't tell me none of them is from a tagging krew or a gang. 98% yeah right!!
Posted by axel718 on July 17, 2008 at 8:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)
sk8hueneme....I am sure they are white and black kids in oxnard and hueneme. I am sure they are in gangs / and taggers as well. Now go find out what gangs they are in then compare them to the rest of the gangs in Oxnard and Hueneme and ventura county for that matter and then let me know the percentages. Here are a couple Colonia, CVLS, BLF,BPLG, MPLS, VSV, WSL, TOCAS, and MS unfortunately they are all hispanic. If you dont believe me go look them up yourself. There is the BMG that are black. Look at the population in your neighborhood, the local gangs are made up of that population. Like down in South Central LA which is mainly black the gangs are mainly black. In Oxnard since the population is mainly hispanic so are the gangs, do the math.
Believe me I dont like the juggalo's or what they stand for either. But then again you have plenty of other music groups that are out there promoting the same crap as ICP. I guess it would be fair to say that you hate all groups that promote the same crap as ICP, since they are not the only ones?
Posted by axel718 on July 17, 2008 at 9:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)
distracted.....of course he deserves a fair trial as does everyone. I dont know if you have any idea how the justice system works but there was a warrant issued for his arrest. A judge wont sign a warrant if the cops did not have some pretty solid evidence against him especially for a murder warrant.
Blame my mother for every bad choice I ever made?? No I never blamed anyone for any bad choices I made except myself. Yet I never had to go to court to face a murder trial either. I can tell you for a fact that I was never in a place where someone was stabbed at 3:30 in the morning. How you can compare this to a bad choice is ridiculous. I never condemned anyones family. But someone who was "raised properly" would not be in that situation to begin with. I am not saying that it's his mothers fault either. At 19 years old (even though he is a teenager) he is an adult in the state of California and he makes his own decisions. Another thing you have to look at is "teenagers are like that" again at 19 he is an adult and is expected to make mature decisions. Unfortunately he did not and now that teenager if he is in fact guilty is looking at prison for the rest of his life.
My point is this, dont throw around the he was "raised properly" statement so easily because he is looking at a murder conviction. Even look at it this way, whether he is the guilty person or not, he was involved in a situation where a 17 year old child was stabbed to death. Why didnt he stay around and try to help the 17 year old? He knew that someone had been stabbed and was dying. He decided to run away and let that kid die. To me that is not someone who was raised properly.

Hueneme1961's comment (which he/she should have proofread before posting), "We need to use everything thing we can to get rid of punks and there family's who do nothing to control there kids" is a direct critism of Jose's mother who is one of the best people I have ever known. She did everything she could in his father's absence to raise him properly. Please just trust me on this one; I don't think she has slept since his arrest.
When the people of Hueneme realize the person they simply know as "Jose," is the boy charged, they will be mortified because he is well-known and respected by so many of them. If he did commit this heinous crime, it will be a tremendous blow for those who know who he is.
I am a retired officer of the court. The US judicial system works like this: "Innocent until proven guilty." A warrant and arrest does not prove guilt.
Again, for the family and friends of Kyle Swartz, my sincere sympathy. Whoever killed Kyle should be punished accordingly, whether it was Jose or someone else.

to axel718, I know that we live in a mostly hispanic region and im not saying that the majority of gangs aren't made up of them. But he wasn't from a gang and didn't get killed in the middle of rose park or questa del mar. He was in a tagging krew and for the most part all of his friends were white. And as for jose, this was a kid that i played basketball with on a regular basis. And yes white and blacks both were there on the court everyday we were there. We all grew up in hueneme and this is a horrible thing to happen to our quiet town for all of us. My prayers and heart go out to both families.
Cause their both gone now!!!!!!!
And as for the juggalos. i dont listen to icp and never will. And anyone who tries to push kids in the wrong direction is just plain dumb. Did you forget that the children are our future? so yes, you would be correct. but i was always taught not to hate anyone. so i use the word dislike.

I AGREE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY , i recall the newspaper report said ther was another male with a bat what a coward how do we know this guerrero boy was not fighting for his own life
i don't think anyone really knows what they would do if they were in the same position. Please don't be so quick to judge anyones families because both mothers and famiies are learning the hard way about how ther boys really lived. ask yourself do you really know your kids or are you the one saying "not my kid" this is a community problem not just parents . I also read why did he just leave this kid in the street ? Where were the victims friends at the time why didn't they rush him to the hospital? Thats all we can ask why why why . In no way am i saying it is ok to take anyones life and if your wishing death or bad thing on guerrero or his family what does that make you? I am a mother of 4 and i know first hand how difficult it is to do your best raising kids in this world. My heart goes out to BOTH families in this difficult time.

Hey there FAMILY6 you really need to get the story straight before you talk about something you know nothing about. You weren't there first off. AND for your information the "BAT WAVING MALE" was only defending Kyle after Jose Guerrero starting fighting with Kyle. I know because I was there. Jose Guerrero and his friends went there with the intent to fight people at that house. Kyle's friend's didnt leave him in the street nor did they not try to help Kyle! GET THE FACT STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU SPEAK ON SOMETHING YOU NO NOTHING ABOUT!
