Students join fight against breast cancer

The women's basketball team and a psychology club at Ventura College are joining the national Think Pink campaign against breast cancer.

Both groups will host a series of events Feb. 13 to raise awareness of breast cancer. Proceeds will go to the local Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation.

Ventura College is joining 600 schools nationwide participating in the Think Pink campaign, which is sponsored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

The day will begin with a talk by Lisa Barreto, a breast cancer survivor, at the campus theater. The talk, which is free, will be from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. Feb. 13.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the campus quad will have information booths and a table where people can make Valentine's Day hearts to honor friends and family diagnosed with breast cancer.

In the evening, the women's basketball team will play Moorpark College.

The game and a silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m. in the athletic event center.

Donations will be collected at the game and lunchtime events.
