Pair arrested after Camarillo shop robbed
Two Oxnard men were arrested Tuesday after, police said, the two stole items from a Camarillo hobby shop and hit the store manager with their getaway car.
Vincent Lopez, 25, and Christopher Cate, 20, shoplifted items from Hobby People at 1775 E. Daily Drive about 11:30 a.m., according to the Camarillo Police Department.
When the store manager ran outside to stop them, Lopez drove his car into the man, police said.
The manager jumped onto the hood of the car, police said, and was able to jump off and avoid serious injury.
Police said a witness followed the men to the Spanish Hills area of Camarillo.
A responding Ventura County Sheriff's deputy found the men in the area. Cate cooperated and was arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy, police said.
He was booked into the Ventura County Jail and was held Tuesday evening in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Lopez ran from deputies but was later found with the help of additional patrol deputies, detectives and a search helicopter, police said.
Lopez was arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy.

You would think that if they were going to commit a crime, they might as well have gone big. A hobby shop...duh!

AnnaWhaat: Thanks for the laugh. Your right, robbing is such a bad and dangerous hobby.
Good job Law Enforcement.

Camarillo is no better than Oxnard narc121, it's just closer to the SNOBS up the hill. These two hobby enthusiasts definitely are idiots however I'll have to agree, no matter where they are from.

Please OxnardNative, I was born and raised in Oxnard until a couple of years ago when I moved to Camarillo. It is like night and day. I would never walk down Oxnard Blvd. at night at midnight or any place in Oxnard after dark...unlike Camarillo, where I feel safe wherever I go all the time.

narc121, you should have taken more people with you when you left. Look at the populations. Per capita I think I am correct. Camarillo is far form perfect. Camarillo IS in Ventura County so we're all part of the mess. Quit bad mouthing your own county. What are YOU doing to make any of the issues any better anywhere? Move from one city to another, that's a good solution. I'm glad you feel so safe. I hope nothing ever changes for you but the odds are, you can run, but you cannot hide.

OxnardNative, you're being rather hypocritical. You say I'm badmouthing my own County, yet you call people in Camarillo "SNOBS up the hill"? I have the right to move where I want to. You tell me if you want to live in the same city where one of YOUR family members was shot down for no reason. And believe it or not, my family member was not a gang member. Look at other cities larger than Oxnard like Glendale in Los Angeles County. It has more POPULATION, yet it's safer than Oxnard based on crime rates. I believe it has to do with the people living in the community and the respect the have for each other. I could go on and on about the crap I and other people I know have experienced living in Oxnard, yet I haven't had one problem living in Camarillo. A coworker of mine lives in Oxnard and was telling me how his neighbors constantly park in HIS driveway! He asked the neighbor to move the vehicle and they became upset for telling them to move their car that had no business being parked in someone's private driveway! If I move 10 miles away to avoid idiots like this and be able to use the ATM at night, then its well worth it!

Thanks Narc. 2 each their own right? Like I said, "you can run but you cannot hide". I will stand my ground, as I have since day one in Oxnard, where there are plenty of good people too. It's not the city that makes the people; it's the people that make the city. Unfortunately there ARE some rotten eggs in Oxnard. I'm not one of them and never will be. Best wishes for a long happy, healthy, crime/victim free life. By the way, where did the crime take place that started all this, back and forth blah, blah again??? I guess wherever it was it never could have happened if some idiots from OXNARD did not commit the crime right?! :-)

I lived in Oxnard for 12 years, moved to Camarillo. Much happier. I agree with you Narc.

Oxnardnative, Hate to say it but I have to agree with them also. I have lived in Oxnard since 82 and have watched the slow demise of the area. I live at the Harbor and wouldn't dare walk east down Hemlock late at night.
That being said, it sems that the OPD is stepping up it's efforts to keep the City safe, not certain if it's too little too late.
In the lat five years, my car has been broken into twice and my business once. I cannot leave anything of any apparent value outside at night, it won't be there in the am.

Drugs are probably over 90% of the problem. We attract this vice because our country has the money for it and we pay a very heavy price for this addiction. In this particular instance, we're probably talking about two idiots who, as a previous post states, need a new hobby--but most crime is somehow related back to drugs. At this point I'd be willing to take the gangs out of it, and yes, legalize it and see what happens. I wish some city would try it to see what happens--'cause I was never for this approach--but I'm starting to think the Police are given a job that has a no-win scenario.

I agree with some of you. The people are the ones who make the city bad. I have lived in Oxnard for about 32 yrs. Grew up in good old Ox and saw the city grow and grow. Before, the city was calm it did have crime but not as bad as it has become. I think all the housing that came into Oxnard made it worse. The population grew and so did crime. I live in the north of Oxnard and love it there. I do not go tot he south of Oxnard at night or day....just not a safe thing to do and the side of the city is bad. If we had nice abiding citizens then we would not have this type of problem. Why not get rid of people like this and send them off to an island where they can dispute amongst themselves. I vote for that...haha Nice posting of your opinions...
