HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

Ventura, Buena set doubleheader

Scheduled games this week between the Ventura and Buena boys' and girls' soccer varsity and lower-level games will be at one site on the same day, announced Ventura athletic director Dave Hess.

The soccer fest kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ventura with a girls' frosh-soph game between the two schools. The boys' varsity game is scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by the girls' varsity game.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Rio Mesa holds golf scramble Jan. 21

The eighth annual Rio Mesa High Baseball golf scramble will be held Jan. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Spanish Hills. There will be a silent auction, raffle, dinner and awards. Cost is $160 per player.

YAC Foundation celebrates 10th year

The Young Athletes for Christ (YAC) Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary as well as moving into its new office at 450 S. K St. in Oxnard.

Al Perez has been named executive director.

"Al is a great man of God, who after working more than 20 years in Corporate America in management, has come aboard to help us take YAC to the next level," said John Diaz, one of the YAC founders.
