Scott playing final game as high-schooler
Minutes after helping the St. Bonventure High football team win the CIF-State Division III Championship Bowl Game last month, Darrell Scott wasn't yet ready to call it quits on his high school career.
"It's not over yet," the senior running back said amid the postgame celebration at the Home Depot Center. "I've got one more game to play."
Scott's finale comes Saturday, when he joins 98 of the nation's elite high school football players competing in the East/West U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Kickoff is slated for 10 a.m. PST, with the game set to be televised on NBC.
Scott, playing for the West, is among six finalists being considered by the bowl selection committee for Player of the Year laurels.
The 6-foot, 204-pounder rushed for 2,433 yards and 37 touchdowns in his senior year. For his high school career, which included sophomore and junior seasons at Moorpark High, Scott racked up 7,605 rushing yards and 99 touchdowns.
Scott said recently he is considering a group of colleges that include Colorado, Texas, LSU, USC and UCLA.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl features many of the top high school prospects, including quarterback Dayne Crist of Notre Dame High.
Five area players were selected for the 2007 game: Jimmy Clausen, Marc Tyler and Marshall Jones of Oaks Christian, and Blaine Irby and Michael Williams of St. Bonaventure.
