Immigration agents arrest 10 in county
A team of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 10 people Wednesday in Moorpark, Newbury Park and Oxnard, authorities said.
Three of those arrested by the Fugitive Operations Team had outstanding deportation orders, two with criminal histories involving spousal abuse. The third had re-entered the United States illegally after being deported, ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said. A background check on him revealed prior convictions for drug and battery charges.
Agents arrested the remaining people when they encountered them during the operation and determined they were in the country illegally, Kice said. A background check on one showed an outstanding warrant with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department for drug possession. He was turned over to the Sheriff's Department with an ICE immigration detainer, Kice said.
Fugitive Operations Teams were set up nationwide in 2003 to expand ICE's efforts to arrest and deport people who ignore final deportation orders and other immigration fugitives.
There are five such teams in the Los Angeles area.

Why did it take so long? This is an election year. Immigration is a BIG political topic this election year.
Raids, such as this, with this intensity, haven't happened in the recent past because George Bush needed underpaid, illegal workers for his Crawford, Texas ranch.
Tired of the raids? Just wait untri mid-2009, after the new President (whichever one he or she might be) is sworn in. I guarantee the raids will lessen in both numbers and intensity.
Whether Clinton, McCain, or Obama is elected, there will be no substantial alteration in America's immigration policies...just more of the same. Each of these candidates supported the Bush Amnesty Bill.

I believe the only way to curtail illegal immigration is by building a fence. I wanted to build a fence when both Mexico and Canada refused to join us with the war in Iraq. Every citizen should take a brick to each border and WE THE PEOPLE can built the wall. Mexico has a wall at it's southern border guarded by it's military! shaver_one, you are right none of the candidates will pursue the illegal immigration issue. In Arizona all the business owners are now required to make sure they hire legal aliens, failure to do so may result in loss of their business. The outcry from these business owners was unbelieveable. These American owned business owners were hiring these illegals because they paid them less then minimum wage. The illegal aliens should try marching in the streets of their country to protest their conditions there not here in the USA.
