Keep head up and eyes down

How many times have you topped the ball and heard your playing partners say, "Hey, keep that head down."

Your friends may be well-meaning, but keeping your head down is perhaps the worst information they can give you.

Instead, they should have told you to "keep your eyes down."

It is almost physically impossible to raise only the head during the swing. If the head does rise on the forward swing, it's probably because the entire trunk of your body rose first.

Better advice is to keep your head up and keep your eyes down. The head should stay up so that the left shoulder (for right-handers) can move under the chin. This will help you make the correct shoulder rotation you need in a good, full swing.

If the head is down with the chin tucked into the chest, virtually no shoulder turn can be made and the shots will show it. You will lose power and direction.

Remember to keep your head up, never down, for better swings.
