Oak Park's Umann signs with Fullerton

Oak Park High's Ashley Umann has signed a national letter of intent with Cal State Fullerton.

Umann, a senior forward, has scored five goals for the Eagles. She has been the Oak Park offensive player of the year the last three seasons and was named All-CIF.

Umann plays for the Camarillo Eagles' under-17 Premiere Team, where she has been team captain. Last season she led the Eagles to a Cal South Premier championship.

Coaches move meeting site

The Ventura County Basketball Coaches Association will host its all-county meeting on Monday at 6:30 p.m in the Pacifica High cafeteria.

The meeting was moved from Camarillo to Pacifica due to a scheduling conflict.

Party to honor Hurley's career

There will be a party in honor of longtime Newbury Park High football coach George Hurley, who recently announced his retirement, on Feb. 23. The party will be at Dos Vientos Park, 4801 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, from 5 to 11 p.m.

All Newbury Park football players should arrive at 4 p.m. for a team photo.

Cost is $25.

D.C. United practices today at CSUCI

Major League Soccer team D.C. United will continue its preseason training using the soccer fields at Cal State Channel Islands today.

D.C. United is preparing for an exhibition match against San Jose on Sunday, Feb. 24, at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. This is the first time the CSUCI campus facilities have been used by a professional sports team.

T.O. league seeks former players

The Thousand Oaks Girls Softball Association enters its 25th season and the league invites all former players and board members to attend opening-day ceremonies on March 1.

Players should arrive at noon to check-in for the 12:30 p.m. cermonies at the Los Cerritos Middle School fields.

Future Track Center kicks off season

The Future Track Running Center Store of Agoura Hills will hold an expo in its parking lot on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Every brand of merchandise for track will be represented as the center kicks off the 2008 season. The store is located at 30125 Agoura Road, Suite A, Agoura Hills.

SWIMMING

Chittenden 34th at Junior Olympics

Samantha Chittenden, representing the Buenaventura Swim Club, placed 34th last weekend in the Southern California 13-and-over division at the Junior Olympic Championships at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach on Feb. 9-10.

Even though Chittenden had qualifying times for three events, she concentrated her efforts on the 500 freestyle and placed 34th with a time of 5 minutes, 28:87 seconds.

Halladay Kinsey, 7, will be in the Junior Olympics in Bakersfield today through Sunday to compete in six events in the 8-and-under girls' division: 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly, 100 individual medley, 50 breast stroke and 50 freestyle.
