Now that Oldsmobiles have been retired and sent out to pasture, the Ford Motor Co. might want to consider using the carmarkers one-time slogan for its new model of Jaguar.

The 2009 Jaguar XF was shown off this week at Jaguar Land Rover Ventura in the Ventura Auto Center and the folks who had the pleasure of driving it were most impressed.

"It feels like a longer (Jaguar) XK," said Sales Manager Chakra Janusas of the ride. "Everyone on the street looks at the car."

Janusas said one of the younger members of the sales staff sat in the car and it looked like his car, not his father's.

"It's going to open up a whole new demographic," said Kathy Aschoff, operations manager of Jaguar Land Rover Ventura.

While the Jaguar S-type is going away, don't call the XF a replacement. Consider it a brand new four-door sports car which can seat five comfortably, but uses all the knowledge which has made Jaguar among the elite of the luxury class.

But before you start thinking that "luxury" starts at $100,000, take a seat, because the XF starts at around $50,000. The supercharged version is nicely loaded and starts at $62,000, however, with all the bells and whistles added to each engine, the XF will not cost more than around $65,000. Even an employee at Jaguar Land Rover Ventura called the pricing "ridiculous."

And although price was one thing that visitors found unbelievable at the event, it was the styling which attracted many people to the car.

The exterior design is very modern by Jaguar standards and its shadow could be confused for a BMW or Mercedes-Benz, however it definitely is a Jaguar.

"I don't feel like they copied anyone," said Janusas. "It just looks like a car you would drive."

Aschoff had just one word for the car: "Awesome."

"The styling is awesome. The way it drives; the way it handles," said Aschoff. "It feels like a German car."

Even Paul Wright, chairman of the Los Angeles chapter of the British American Business Counsel, was impressed by the XF. Wright was on hand to represent British-American business interests. He said he has owned two Jaguars in the past nine years and had been considering another brand before seeing the XF.

"I will support this product by promoting it and making my members buy it," Wright told the crowd.

Special guests also included Sharon Harroun Peirce, wife of British Consul General Bob Peirce.

The naturally aspirated engine will produce 300 horsepower, going zero to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, while the supercharger is capable of 420 horsepower and from a stop can reach 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Both engine versions sport 4.2-liter V8 engines with a top speed electronically limited to 155.

"It just takes off and goes like crazy," said Aschoff, one of the lucky ones who was able to drive the XF.

Jeff Sukay, vice president of Ventura Motor Cars, said he loved everything about the car and said the event was a tremendous success. "I couldn't be more pleased with the turn out," he said.

Jaguar Land Rover Ventura has already sold seven of the 22 XFs it will be receiving later this month or early March. The vehicle will officially go on sale March 10.
