Vigil to be held for slain student

The Ventura County Rainbow Alliance has organized a candlelight vigil tonight to honor Larry King, an eighth-grader fatally shot Tuesday inside a classroom at E. O. School in Oxnard.

The Rainbow Alliance is a nonprofit group that advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights.

Several students have said King was openly gay and other students often teased him because of his nonconformist behavior and style of dress.

Authorities have declined to comment on issues of sexual orientation.

The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. today at The ART Barn, 856 E. Thompson Blvd. in Ventura. It will be followed by a walk to the beach, starting at 8 p.m.

For more information, call the Rainbow Alliance at 339-6340.
