CSUCI awarded $84,000 for nursing program
CSU Channel Islands in Camarillo has received $84,000 in state funding for its nursing program.
The funds are part of $2.7million that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger awarded to nursing programs across the state Friday. CSU Channel Islands was one of 18 schools that received funding.
The money will help "expand nursing programs and improve the supply of qualified nurses in our state," Schwarzenegger said in a news release.
The nursing program at Channel Islands, which is in its first year, was created to address the need for nurses in this area.
The shortage is so great that area hospitals contributed $400,000 to the program to double the size of the first class, from 33 to 66 students.
