Thirty-seven Somis School students will go onto the Camarillo Academic Olympic City Finals on February 21, 22 and 23 at the Camarillo Boys and Girls Club for their excellence in Math, Science, English, History, Geography, Current Events, Speech, Art and Creative Writing.
It was a busy week for the students at Somis School. The dance team had a successful garage sale on Saturday, the kindergarten students celebrated the first 100 days of school on Monday, the new Peaceful Playground program was unveiled on Tuesday, Camarillo Academic Olympic winners were recognized at a special assembly on Wednesday, and the middle school students enjoyed their Valentine's dance on Thursday. The 4-day Presidents Day weekend was well deserved by students and staff.
Mrs. Jarrells' kindergarten students teamed up with Miss Morrissey's first and second graders for the 100th Day Olympics as part of the 100 Days of Kindergarten Celebration. The older kids helped the younger kids through a series of Olympic style games including jump roping, hula hooping, bean bag throwing, ball bouncing and roller gliding. Miss Guevara's kindergarten students partnered with her first graders as part of their celebration. The students counted pieces of cereal as they made beautiful necklaces out of them, and created cool designs with marshmallows.
Other worthwhile things going on at Somis School include peer tutoring with Ms. Reilly, drama rehearsals for an upcoming performance with Mrs. Gass, band practices for the spring concert with Mr. Murphy and preparations for the Kindergarten Tea scheduled for March 18th from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. to welcome new kindergarten students and their families for the fall.
