Hiking distance: 4.6-mile loop. 

Hiking time: 1.75 hours.

Highlights: Panoramic views of the coast from Mugu Rock to the Great Sand Dune.Several of the Channel Islands can be seen on clear days. The trails wind through a variety of plants including the sycamore-shaded canyon road.

Signs: All trails on this hike are signed except for the spur.

Spurs: Coastal panoramic views from an overlook hilltop.

Dogs: Canines are not permitted on trails within Point Mugu State Park.

Drinking fountains and picnic tables: Fountains are in the day use parking area and there are tables and fountains in the campground.

Restrooms: There is a restroom in the day-use parking area

Directions to trailhead: From Las Posas Road and Highway 1 travel 6 miles east to Sycamore Canyon Campground. Turn left and the parking area is on the left just past the toll booth. Parking is $3 a day when there is an attendant on duty, usually on weekends and holidays.

Hiking directions: From the parking area follow the road north 0.3 mile through the campground to a gate, where the trail begins. Hike about 50 yards past the gate and turn left at a sign that marks the start of the Scenic Trail. Head uphill to a junction at 0.9 mile and take the center path. At 1 mile continue straight a little farther to the top. After enjoying the views, head back down to the first junction and turn left. At the next junction, 10 yards farther, continue straight. Bear left on the dirt road at 1.2 miles. Follow the road uphill to a signed junction on the right at 2.1 miles. Follow this trail downhill to Big Sycamore Canyon Trail at 3.5 miles. Turn right and follow the road back to the trailhead gate at 4.3 miles. Follow the road back through the campground to the parking area at 4.6 miles.
