Oxnard police conclude investigation into rape allegations against officer

Oxnard police have concluded an 18-month investigation over allegations that an officer raped a teenager and turned the report over to the District Attorney's Office for consideration.

The police department is not making any recommendations in the case involving Senior Officer Martin Polo, Chief John Crombach said today.

"They're the legal experts," Crombach said. "They will go over this. They say it will take about 30 days to determine if there's a prosecutable case here."

The family of the teenager filed a $1.5 million claim against the city last August, alleging that Polo raped her in a police sub-station a year earlier after she sought his assistance. The Star does not name alleged victims of sexual assaults.

The girl was 12 at the time and described in the claim as emotionally troubled.

Polo, a 20-year department veteran, has been on administrative leave with full pay since the claim was filed.

Unlike civilian citizens, officers of the law are given special treatment/consideration when they are involved in "alleged" incidents. I do not blame our Chief for not making any comments against one of his own. It's against deparmental policy. Have our OPD obtain a search warrant to collect "pertinent " evidence from the officer's home. Tell it like it is.

It's good that another agency is taking a second look at this. The FBI should be brought in to untangle this mess and bring to justice anyone responsible for a crime while acting as a police officer. If the guy is innocent, the FBI will determine him to be not guilty.

This situation stinks. Initially, the girl's parents went to Oxnard PD and reported the attack. The police asked them to allow them time to investigate the charges. They wanted to handle the situation internally. The girl's parents agreed and believed in their good intentions. (yah right.) OPD deliberately stretched out the investigation until the statute of limitations ran out. Then, the parents filed civil charges with an attorney. OPD continued with their "investigation". Now, after all of this time, they have NO OPINION EITHER WAY? They are going to let the DA decide or handle it? This is so obiously something the FBI or Attorney
General should be called in to investigate the whole department. The department is known to have a scandalous reputation with women. Every area throughout Oxnard. Most officers are involved. The DA has received so many complaints concerning rogue cops with predatory behavior and done nothing. Could they be guilty or tied in someway?
