Man sentenced for burning another
Victim had reportedly tried to buy methamphetamine
A man who set an Oxnard resident on fire was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison.
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Bruce Clark also ordered Felipe Juarez, 26, to pay $6,000 as restitution to the victim, Miguel Limon.
Besides Juarez, two other men, Anthony "Tony" Soto, 21, and Eduardo "Fluffy" Lopez, 24, were charged with the April 27 attack against Limon.
The trio allegedly attacked him, leaving third-degree burns on his arm and the right side of his face. Both of his eyes were blackened and swollen shut, police said.
He was set on fire after he reportedly went to buy methamphetamine at a house in the 1100 block of North Sixth Place in Port Hueneme, authorities said.
Juarez's lawyer, Louis Samonsky, said in an interview that his client has 3 1/2 years left to serve in prison after pleading guilty to arson. Samonsky said his client must serve 85 percent of his sentence and received credit for a year served in jail.
Samonsky said Juarez feels "very bad" about what happened and wishes that he could apologize to the victim.
"This was a circumstance surrounding the use of drugs," he said. "It really taught him a lesson. You can do things that you would never do, never were taught to do, and it's not part of you as a person. Once you start abusing methamphetamine, it makes you crazy."
Soto was recently sentenced to seven years in prison, Samonsky said.
"I don't believe my client was as involved as the other fellow," Samonsky said. "You can't risk taking your case to trial when it settles in that range because the damage control is overwhelming. I believe the district attorney realized they had problems in their case, and we were able to settle the case."
Lopez's lawyer, Victor Salas, said Wednesday that his client's case is pending and that no trial date has yet been set.

Are you capable of reading AnnaWhaat? Where do you get Fillmore from? The very first line of this story says the victim was an Oxnard resident. The stupidity of people who comment on this website is alarming.

He probably only got 5 years because he pled guilty instead of going through a trial.
Mr.Realty, you made my day as well!

Mr. Reality---don't be so critical. Anna was just asking a question. The answer is "no" and that should be it.
