Norman promoted to deputy city attorney
A veteran assistant city attorney in Ventura was promoted this week to deputy city attorney.
Chris Norman, 41, becomes the No. 2 attorney to City Attorney Ariel Calonne, who was hired six months ago to succeed Bob Boehm.
Norman has worked at Ventura City Hall since 2001, currently practicing in the areas of litigation, public works, police, finance and redevelopment. "His background is exceptional," Calonne said in his recommendation letter.
The City Council unanimously approved the promotion Monday night, which raised Norman's salary to $137,000.
Before Ventura, Norman worked in Santa Ana's City Attorney's Office, where he helped develop and manage an in-house litigation section and advised the city's planning commission, Calonne said.
While working for a small, private firm, he also served as a contracted assistant city attorney for Adelanto, Indio and Perris.
Norman earned a law degree from University of Chicago Law School in 1992. He has a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Occidental College.
