Highlights: Moorpark — Kyle Diamond finished the game with 18 kills. Evin Giglio wasn't far behind, slamming back 14 kills of his own. Eric Rubin recorded 58 assists. Graeme Bell had 13 digs.

CAL LUTHERAN 91, CALTECH 48

At Cal Lutheran

Highlights: Cal Lutheran — Andy Meier led the Kingsmen with 15 points in addition to five rebounds. Greg Grimm contributed 12 points, four rebounds, and six steals. Mychal Owens scored 10 points with six rebounds and three steals. Aaron Fisher also scored 10.

Record: Cal Lutheran 18-3, 8-2 SCIAC.

BOYS' SOCCER

ROYAL WINS, TIES SIMI VALLEY

Highlights: Royal — The Highlanders ended the season by playing Simi Valley to a scoreless tie. Jordan Strassner scored in a 1-0 win over Newbury Park as Royal ended 10-2-2 in Marmonte League play to share the championship with Newbury Park (1-0). Both finished with 20 points, two points for a win and one point for a tie. On Friday, in their last game of the season, the Highlanders battled Simi to a scoreless tie. Simi Valley — Returning from an injury earlier in the season, sophomore Cody Butcher sparked Simi's defensive effort to thwart a late rally by Royal. In a recap of the season, Simi scored 43 goals compared to 13 for the opposition. The strong defensive effort this season was led by Butcher, Bryan Honda, Tyler Apperson, Chris Horne, Joe Membrila and goalie Shawn Bailey.

Records: Royal 16-3-4; Simi Valley 11-2-5, 7-2-5 Marmonte League.

NEWBURY PARK EARNS CHAMPIONSHIP

Highlights: Newbury Park — The Panthers finished 1-0 as Marmonte League co-champions, despite dropping a 1-0 decision against Thousand Oaks on a penalty kick. The Panthers were 14-3-0 overall behind the coaching of Paul Sanford and assistant coach Tanner Jordan.

SIMI VALLEY 3, THOUSAND OAKS 1

Highlights: Simi Valley — In the final home game, Brent Kruse, the leading goal scorer, had two goals. Omar Abosaleem added two assists.

CHANNEL ISLANDS WINS TITLE

JV

Highlights: Channel Islands — The Raiders finished the season as Pacific View League champion with an 8-1-1 record and 14- overall. Led by a strong defense, junior captains Josue Ceja and Jose Guitierrez, the Raiders shut out 10 of their 18 opponents. Leading the offensive charge was sophomore captain Salvador Orozco, who led the team with 13 goals. The Raiders scored 73 goals, while allowing nine. The future looks bright for the Channel Islands soccer program as many of the JV players will have a chance to show their skills next year at the varsity level.

OAKS CHRISTIAN 5, OAK PARK 2

Highlights: Oaks Christian — The Lions prevailed in the Tri-Valley League match.

CALABASAS 1, WESTLAKE 0

Highlights: Calabasas — The Coyotes scored in the first half to end the Marmonte League season on a victorious note. Westlake — The Warriors game against Moorpark was canceled.

Frosh-soph

Highlights: Westlake — Andrew Nickel scored a game-tying goal in the first half off an assist by Heinar Pech. Avery Schulman scored the winning goal.

CAMARILLO EAGLES ADVANCE

State Cup

Highlights: Camarillo Eagles — The boys' under-11 team defeated Albion Soccer Club of San Diego on Sunday to secure a berth in the sweet 16 of the Cal South State Cup tournament this weekend in Escondido. The Eagles went 3-0 in its beginning bracket, defeating North Irvine SC of Irvine, Fram CQ of Redondo Beach and Alliance SC of San Diego. The tournament began two weekends ago with 94 teams from Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernadino and San Diego counties. The boys have outscored their opponents 8-2 throughout the tournament. Camarillo finished in second place in the Silver North Division of the Coast Soccer League in regular season play and will advance to the Silver Elite Division in 2008-09. The team has been together for three years and is coached by Josh Parker and Phil Phillips. A win Saturday in Escondido against the San Diego Crusaders SC would make this team the youngest Camarillo Eagles boys' team to advance to the Elite 8 in the State Cup competition. Additionally, it would earn an invitation for the team to play in the Surf Cup in the Fall.

GIRLS' SOCCER

RIO MESA WINS PAIR

JV

Highlights: Rio Mesa — Oxnard led 1-0 at halftime, but Rio Mesa rallied for a 2-1 win. Rio Mesa's Maddie Winegar-Johnson scored two goals in the second half with the game-winner in the last two minutes off an assist from Megan Hernandez. Hannah Tasker had another solid game at goalie. Rio Mesa closed the season with a 3-1 win over Channel Islands. Hernandez, Nancy Grajeda and Winegar-Johnson scored goals. Aubrey Armenta had an assist. Rio Mesa was unable to play a make-up game with Hueneme. The Spartans defeated the Vikings 6-0 in the first meeting.

Record: Rio Mesa 10-5-4, 5-2-2 Pacific View League.

OAKS CHRISTIAN WINS FIVE STRAIGHT

Highlights: Oaks Christian — The Lions finished the season on a winning note. The Lions defeated Oaks Christian 3-1, La Reina 1-0, Santa Paula 3-0, St. Bonaventure 1-0 and Malibu 3-0. Leading the charge were Devyn Sisson, Amy Woodruff, Jenny Todey, Luaren Peddicord, Sarah Morris, Brooke Baur and goalkeeper Katie Elliott.

Record: Oaks Christian 7-3-1 Tri-Valley League.

ROYAL WINS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Frosh-soph

Highlights: Royal — Taryn Lathrop scored in a 1-0 win over Newbury Park. Alyssa Hunsaker had an assist. Royal wrapped up the Marmonte League championship with a 3-0 win over Simi Valley. The first goal was by Nicole Best off an assist from Alyssa Hunsaker. Another goal by Carly Freeman was assisted by Lathrop. Kelly Upson converted a penalty kick after being fouled in the box on a fast break. For the second year in a row, the Royal frosh-soph girls finished undefeated under the coaching of Kellee Safford.

Record: Royal 11-0-1 Marmonte League.

VENTURA PLACES FOURTH

Santa Barbara JV Tournament

Highlights: Ventura — The Cougars finished fourth in the tournament behind Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara and Agoura. Loretta Zeller scored seven goals, Karin Weber five, Arielle Brackett three and Larissa Rockney-Finger two. In sudden death overtime, Kathryn Cryer scored the winning goal against Rio Mesa. Alyson Nagel and Jessi Smit each had seven saves. In the last Channel League game, Dos Pueblos defeated Ventura 7-4. Zeller scored two goals. Marley Schoepfer and Kathryn Cryer added goals. Smit had five saves and Nagel two.

Record: Ventura 10-11, 4-4 Channel League.

VILLANOVA 5, CARPINTERIA 2

Highlights: Villanova — Corrine Berryman and Hilary Loughman each scored two goals.

MOORPARK SPLITS GAMES

Highlights: Moorpark — Mackenzie Nizdil scored two goals and Lilly Imani added a goal in a 4-3 loss to Newbury Park. Jessika Wu was the steals leader. Moorpark defeated Calabasas 10-4 as Nizdil, Arielle Brown and Imani each scored three goals. Kourtney Kokinski added a goal. Katee Walters had six blocks.

MOORPARK WINS PAIR

Highlights: Moorpark — Tina Wu scored five goals in the 11-4 win over Newbury Park. Ashley Valdivia and Allison Larson had two goals. Chelsie Dibene had a goal. Larson had a team-high 11 steals. Wu scored five more goals in the 12-2 win over Calabasas. Valdivia and Andrea Maxon scored two goals. Elizabeth Staples, Dibene and Abbie Katz produced goals. Allie Fog recorded nine blocks.

ROLLER HOCKEY

WAVES UNBEATEN

Highlights: California Waves — The Roller Dome-based team of 11- and-12-year-olds is undefeated this year. The Waves have won three tournaments and are 14-0. Local team members include Connor Chilton (Oak Park), Trent Dolabson (Oak Park), Megan Linder (Agoura), Patrick Newell (Thousand Oaks), Ethan Somoza and Evan Somoza (Simi Valley) and Ryan Tait (Santa Clarita). Other members are Aaron Murray, Kevin Morisako, Evan Nyhus and goalie Jason Dreschel. The team is coached by Rollerdome hockey director Dave Serriane and assisted by Eric Somoza, both Simi Valley residents. The Wolves opened the 2008 roller hockey season by capturing the AAU Winternationals Squirt AAA cup in Huntington Beach. The team followed this win with an even bigger one, by taking the Platinum Championship in the Squirt Division of the North American Roller Hockey Championships Winternationals. Rounding the month out, the Wolves won gold again when they moved up to the Peewee Division (14 and under) and won the Western Inline Championship. The core of the team has been together since 2004 and has already won a National Championship, amongst other numerous tournaments. Serriane is proud of the Wolves. "That it's a great group of kids, who play hard, have a lot of fun and just really understand the team concept of moving the puck and playing for each other," said Serriane. The Wolves have scored 103 goals in 14 goals. Somoza said he knows the streak must eventually come to an end, especially since they moved up to an older division, often playing against kids who are twice their size and strength. "For the time being, the Wolves will just keep going," Somoza said.

WRESTLING

THOUSAND OAKS WIN TITLE

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — The Lancers were 7-0 in the Marmonte League and 12-0 overall. Jared Fudge, 140 pounds, was the only league champion. Coach Kerry Lyne is organizing the Conejo Valley Wrestling Club which trains at Thousand Oaks High and starts next month.

BOYS

THOUSAND OAKS FINISHES FIRST

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — Simi Valley defeated the Lancers 78-69, but the Lancers rebounded for a season-ending win over Newbury Park 56-24 to claim the Marmonte League championship. Michael Beck had 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the Simi Valley game. Evan Hall scored 17 and Kevin Kiani 13. Daniel Harvey had eight points, 12 rebounds and eight steals. Against Newbury Park, Hall scored 11 and Kiani 10. Sam Donohue had 10 rebounds. Sean Cook hit two 3-pointers. Others contributing to the team's success included Austin Solomon, Daniel Ross, Jorge Fernandez, Tyler Williams, Matt Downey and Abell Duprat. Simi Valley — The Pioneers ended the season with a one-point win over Royal to finish in a second-place tie with Calabasas (1).

NEWBURY PARK WINS

Highlights: Newbury Park — Jordan Brower had 16 points and seven rebounds in a 45-26 win over Moorpark. Drake Exstrom had 12 points and six rebounds. Adam Lane had nine rebounds and a season-high 10 assists. David Reaves had six points and five blocks. Daniel Chung, Tyler Ditmore, Jordan Ekholm, Lyndon Staine and Reaves combined for 12 rebounds. David Nutley shot 50 percent from the foul line. Marcus Murata played well on defense.

VENTURA 68, DOS PUEBLOS 60

Highlights: Ventura — Josh Tice had nine points, four rebounds and one assist. Dillon Lansberg recorded nine points, five rebounds, a steal and an assist. Cory McCaslin added nine points, two rebounds and one steal. Jonathan Waxer had eight points and two rebounds. Trent Reeves led the team with six assists and three steals. The other players are Andrew Laubacher, Felipe Hernandez, Patrick Peterson, Matt Melnar, Spencer DeJong, James Kelsch, Taylor Dana, Jordan Garett and Chris Cummings. The coaches are Dean Prophet and Max Prophet. DeJong was the scoring leader with 211 points. Waxer scored 168 and Kelsch 160. Kelsch had 24 blocks and Garett 13. Hernandez had 50 steals and Kelsch 36. Hernandez had 78 assists and Reeves 63. DeJong made 33 3-pointers and McCaslin 18. Tice had 167 rebounds, Kelsch 139 and Dana 90.

SANTA CLARA 74, CARPINTERIA 31

Highlights: Santa Clara — Michael Laubacher scored 13 points. David Joseph had 12 and Quentin Jackson eight. All 11 Saints scored. Santa Clara defeated Oaks Christian 61-57.

Record: Santa Clara 9-3 Tri-Valley League.

ROYAL WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

Sophomore

Highlights: Royal — The Highlanders defeated Newbury Park, 48-43 and Simi Valley 74-59 to close the book on a Marmonte League championship. Matt Padavick led the Highlanders with 12 points. Sam Schaefer added 11 points. Jeremy Harry had nine points, seven assists and five steals. Greg Horne was active inside, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking four shots. Horne finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks, all team highs. Padavick was 5 for 5 from behind the 3-point line to finish with 19 points. Schaefer had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Harry also had a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 assists. The win over the crosstown-rival Pioneers caps off a year of championships for the Royal sophomores that saw them win the Agoura Sophomore Tournament and the Mater Dei Sophomore Tournament before finishing as champions of the Marmonte League. The Royal roster includes Doug Tavares, Ren Westerline, Anthony Standard, Schaefer, Ryan Jaeger, Padavick, Tyler Adachi, Harry, Matt Stern, Kurtis Tollefson, Horne and Ross Casanova.

Record: Royal 20-4, 1 Marmonte League.

OXNARD 55, HUENEME 36

Frosh-soph

Highlights: Oxnard — The Yellowjackets won the Pacific View League championship by winning nine straight games after starting the season at 2-8. Julian Ramon had 12 points, six steals and five rebounds. Kamryon McDaniel scored 12 and Noel Gonzalez 10. Steve Toliver had six rebounds and eight points. Ryan Washington had five blocked shots and nine rebounds. Other members of the team include Alex Barrera, Bryan Dickey, Brennan Groeneveld, Miguel Huizar, Brandon King, Andrew Reyes and Travis Lopez.

Record: Oxnard 11-8, 9-1 Pacific View League.

CAMARILLO 61, PACIFICA 25

Highlights: Camarillo — Adrian Rodriguez scored a game-high 11. Bryce Godfrey had seven points, Jesse Flitt and Liquean Brock added six each, and Fernando Castro and Kyle Willson each had five. Zandro Diaz had six steals and five assists. The Scorpions finished with an 11-11 overall record and an 8-2 Pacific View League record to place second in league. Eight of the 11 losses suffered by Camarillo came by a total of 17 points. The players were Ryan Pettit, Brandon Godfrey, Zandro Diaz, Ross Walby, Brock, Flitt, Willson, Castro, Evan Vigiano, Adrian Rodriguez, Dan Reilly, Jordan Bricker, Bryce Godfrey and Michael Carter. Allan Sadowsky coaches the Scorpions.

GIRLS

NORDHOFF WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

Frosh-soph

Highlights: Nordhoff — The Rangers finished undefeated in the Tri-Valley League. Nordhoff defeated Fillmore 45-43 and Bishop Diego 50-28. Against Fillmore, Brittany Curtis had 11 rebounds, and Leah Pacquett was high scorer with 14. In the Bishop Diego game, Curtis pulled down 19 rebounds. Leading scorers were Curtis and Pacquett with 12 each. Nordhoff, coached by Gary Tuttle, finished the season at 18-1.

Record: Nordhoff 10-0 Tri-Valley League.

ST. BONAVENTURE 48, OAK PARK 27

JV

Highlights: St. Bonaventure — Julette Marquez had 16 points and four steals. Kelsey Botwinick had 14 points and five steals. Monique Djoumessi had eight points and six rebounds. Kayley Lyons added four points, eight rebounds and three steals.

THOUSAND OAKS WINS TITLE

JV

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — The Lancers finished their second consecutive season as Marmonte League champions with a win on Friday night against crosstown rival Newbury Park, 59-33. Thousand Oaks scoring was led by freshman standout Nicole Packard with 18 points and Ashley Devolites with 10 points. The entire team contributed in scoring. Thousand Oaks averaged a win margin of 23 points per game for the Marmonte League season. "Defense and speed are what we do best," said coach Chuck Aplin. "I'm very proud of what these athletes accomplished, in a league that has such outstanding teams."

AGOURA 61, MOORPARK 36

JV

Highlights: Agoura — Samantha Fisher scored 20 points in a 66 win over Moorpark. Camille Malknect added 18 and Rachel Solomon scored nine. Solomon scored 18 and Parsa Razaee 16 in a 67-22 win over Calabasas. Moorpark — Alexis Halamandaris scored nine.

Record: Agoura 14-10, 10-4 Marmonte League.

BUENA WINS CHANNEL LEAGUE

Frosh-soph

Highlights: Buena — The Bulldogs defeated crosstown rival Ventura and San Marcos to win the Channel League. Jasmine Barnes, Maddie VanLeeuwen and Allie Austin were leading scorers throughout the season. Margaret Powell led the team in assists and defense. The other contributing players are Melissa Corney, Hayley Garcia, Chelsea Bolton, Lili Parra, McKenzie Burroughs, Elaina Anderson, Lauren Whitcomb and Madison Guraya.

Record: Buena 15-2, 7-1 Channel League.

CONEJO 37, OJAI 12

Ventura County Youth Conference

Highlights: Conejo Comets — The seventh-grade girls were led by Chelsea Cooper with four assists, five points and four rebounds. Katherine Reaves scored 15 points and added 19 rebounds. Lindsay Neuner had 13 points, five steals and four rebounds. Kianna Landon had four blocks and four rebounds. Dana Slomiak, Elana Yaffe and Hannah Haines combined for nine rebounds and four steals.

Record: Conejo 10-6.

ST. ROSE OF LIMA 40, LA REINA 21

Catholic League

Highlights: St. Rose — The girls defeated La Reina for the second time this season 40-21. St. Rose was led by the defense of Melissa Mallari, who had two points and five rebounds. Marissa Casanova added three points and five steals. Alex DelNastro had three rebounds and two points. Kara and Ali Frank combined for three steals. Julianne Romos recorded 20 points, four rebounds and seven steals. Kylie Cunningham had 15 points, six assists, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Record: St. Rose 9-0, 5-0 league.
