CAMARILLO

Master gardener to speak Feb. 21

The Pleasant Valley Garden Club will meet Feb. 21 at Camarillo Seventh-day Adventist Church, Fireside Room, 3975 E. Las Posas Road. The social hour begins at 9 a.m., followed by the meeting at 9:30 a.m.

GOP women to hold monthly meeting

The Camarillo Republican Women Federated Club will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Sterling Hills Golf Club.

The speaker will be Barbara Alby, who will discuss her experiences while serving in the California Legislature and the Republican National Committee.

Lunch is $17.50, and attendees may choose from three entrées.

Have a Heart' theme of club meeting

Christian Women's Club will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Soule Park Golf Course Banquet Room.

The theme of the meeting will be "Have a Heart." Fun with words will be the special feature. Pat Johnson of Oxnard will be the soloist. Shirley Pirozzi of Oak Park will share a life-threatening experience that changed her outlook on her marriage and life in general.

OXNARD

Fleet Reserve Association to meet

Fleet Reserve Association Branch 120 will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Branch House, 154 E. Sixth St.

Branch activities will be on the agenda.

Active duty, veteran, reserve and retired enlisted personnel of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard are eligible for membership in the Fleet Reserve Association.

Ladies Auxiliary meeting set

Oxnard Unit 120 of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association will meet Tuesday at the Oxnard Elks Club, 801 South A St. The social hour and luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m.

Dependents of active duty, veteran, reserve and retired Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard enlisted personnel eligible for membership in the Fleet Reserve Association are invited. For more information, call 486-8952 or 487-1976.

Eagles to hold fundraiser Saturday

Oxnard Eagles No. 232 will host the Heart Research Fundraiser and Induction to honor newly elected Aerie and auxiliary members to Oxnard Eagles No. 232 Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Dinner of roast beef or chicken will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and dancing will be from 8 p.m. to midnight, with music by Gino's Band. Cost is $12. For more information, including location, call 488-9090.

Main Street Jazz to perform Sunday

The Channel Cities Jazz Club will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club, 2600 S. Harbor Blvd.

Visiting musicians warm up the afternoon session, performing sets of traditional jazz and swing music from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Qualified musicians are assigned to the sets (this is not an open mic session). The featured band, Main Street Jazz, takes the stage from 3 to 4 p.m., and the afternoon winds up with an open jam session until 4:30 p.m.

World of Color' topic of NAWIC meeting

The National Association of Women in Construction Ventura-Oxnard Chapter No. 139 will meet Tuesday at the Courtyard by Marriott for its monthly dinner meeting. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. for networking. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.

Annette Callari will speak on "World of Color," addressing current design trends.

NAWIC is an international professional women's organization. The core purpose of the organization is to enhance the success of women in the construction industry.

Teamsters to meet at Wilson center

Tri-Counties Teamsters Retirees Association will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Senior Center, 350 North C St.

Mask' gourds exchange planned

The Channel Islands Gourd Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Santa Rosa Clubhouse, 11701 E. Las Posas Road.

There will be an exchange of half-completed "mask" gourds. Attendees can bring theirs in a brown bag.

Death penalty to be discussed Wednesday

The Simi Valley/Moorpark Democratic Club will hold a discussion about the death penalty at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Simi Valley Library Community Room, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

The speaker will be Michael McMahan, assistant Ventura County public defender, who has had an extensive career in criminal defense.

Betty Berry to speak at Kiwanis meeting

Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley will host speaker Betty Berry at its breakfast meeting Wednesday.

Representing Senior Concerns Community Outreach Program, Berry will talk about "Caring for Aging Loved Ones." Many caregivers of seniors also hold down jobs — a burden that affects the families as well as the employers. Learn about the outreach program available to employers and employees.

Archivist to speak to genealogy group

The Conejo Valley Genealogy Society will meet from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Grant R. Brimhall Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.

Michelle Light will discuss "Preservation 101 — Tips for the Household Archivist." She is an archivist at the University of California at Irvine.

Larry Greenfield, California director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, will speak on "The American Way: Defeating Liberalism at Home and Jihad Abroad."

Club announces new meeting location

Thousand Oaks Videomakers are now part of the Thousand Oaks Computer and Photo Club and will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, and each third Monday of the month.

The club is for amateur video makers who share ideas on filming and editing videos.

The new meeting location will be at Goebel Senior Center, 1385 E. Janss Road.

VENTURA

Submarine Veterans to hold banquet

The Submarine Veterans of WWII and USSVI Parche Base of Ventura County will meet at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at Carrows, Seaward Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.

The meeting will be the annual installation banquet with Bill Reitz being installed as president of the WWII Submariners and Bob Williams of the Parche Base.

Doug O'Brien will be inducted into the Holland Club, having qualified in submarines at least 50 years ago. Tolling of the Bells will be conducted in memory of the 52 lost submarines of WWII.

All of the Submariner meetings are open to all submariners of any era and anyone with a sincere interest in the United States Submarine Force.

For this meeting/banquet, reservations must be made no later than Wednesday with Dick Otterson at 484-1140.

The Submariners wish to express their appreciation to the medical community for the interest in the KAPPS Program. Children suffering hair loss due to chemotherapy are visited by Submariners and given a ball cap and made honorary Submariners.

Aglow meeting set for Wednesday

The Ventura Aglow Community Lighthouse will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the living room of the South Coast Fellowship Church, 3050 Market St.

Veronica Joy Klepadlo of Joy Filled Ministries in Simi Valley will speak.

The meeting is open to both men and women.

Safe Boating Class offered by squadron

The United States Power Squadron, in conjunction with the Ventura Power Squadron, will offer a 10-week Safe Boating Class.

Registration will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ventura Yacht Club at 1755 Spinnaker Drive.

The class will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks.

Instructors will provide an introduction to safe boating, boat types and handling, charting and navigation, Coast Guard and state regulations, use of marine radio, weather and other maritime topics.

The cost of the textbook and plotting materials is $49; no pre-registration is required.

A certificate of completion will be provided to all those who finish the course.

Genealogy group to hold panel Saturday

Ventura County Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ventura LDS Family History Center, 3501 Loma Vista Road.

The subject is a society panel.

The meeting will be set aside for those members and guests who have questions but never found the opportunity to ask. Brenda Ball will preside over the panel.

Watch and Clock Collectors to meet

The Ventura County and Santa Barbara County chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors will meet at noon Sunday at Ventura College, Building B, in the cafeteria.

The program will be "Correct Setup and Trouble Shooting of Striking Mechanism" presented by Ferdinand Geitner, master watch and clock maker at Montecito Clock Gallery.

The association is a nonprofit organization whose members include hobbyists, collectors and professionals.

The common bond is a fascination with the art and science of timekeeping and timepieces.

TRIO to hold meeting Friday

The Ventura County chapter of Transplant Recipients International Organization, TRIO, will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the Baxter Building, One Baxter Way, Westlake Village.

The featured speaker for the evening is Dr. Richard Darling, president of the FAIR Foundation, who will discuss equality in research funding for liver disease and the issue of presumed consent for all organ donation.

Local recipients will have the opportunity to say farewell to liver transplant surgeon R. Mark Ghobrial, who is leaving UCLA to head a transplant program at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

The presentation is free, and refreshments are provided.
