Foundation to donate $10,000 to hospital

The Kensington Foundation will present a $10,000 check to St. John's Hospital in Oxnard on Feb. 21 for the purchase of equipment to enhance their pediatric rehabilitation department. It is partnering with St. John's to provide assistance for children with rehabilitation needs in Ventura County.

The foundation was established in January 2006 in memory of Kensington Michael Whittaker, who died in an automobile accident on March 28, 2005. The nonprofit organization was founded by Brian and Lili Whittaker of Fillmore.

In 2006, the foundation began hosting an annual golf tournament at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore to raise money to help others who may face medical emergencies.

While the Kensington Foundation's primary long-term goal is to build a pediatric acute rehabilitation facility in Ventura County, in the short term, the foundation is partnering with local facilities such as St. John's.

The foundation will host its third annual golf tournament April 5 at Elkins Ranch. Players and sponsors are welcome. For information, contact Greg Campell at 656-6996 or Lili Whittaker by e-mail at lili@kensingtonfoundation.org.

Gull Wings benefits from Vons school program

Gull Wings Children's Museum announced that it is one of the top 250 earning groups nationally in the recent Vons 10 percent Back to Schools Program. As one of the top 250 groups, Vons has contributed an additional $1,000 for a total of $5,602.76.

Through this program, the Safeway family of stores has contributed more than $3 million to support the education of youths across the nation.

Gull Wings Children's Museum is the only children's museum in Ventura County. It is a nonprofit that is supported through a small admission fee, grants and donations from various community members.

It prides itself in addressing the needs of its community by providing reduced fees to school groups and community members. The additional $1,000 will help it to continue to provide hands-on exploration in a stimulating environment.
