Pepperdine president to chair education council
Andrew K. Benton, president of Pepperdine University, has been named chairman of the board of directors for the American Council on Education.
Benton had been serving as vice chairman of the council, which oversees colleges and universities across the country. He was named chairman this week at the council's annual meeting in San Diego and will serve for one year.
Benton took over as president of the private Malibu university in 2000. He also has served as Pepperdine's executive vice president and chief operational officer. In addition, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate classes.
