Nimby's will be Nimby's
This here diatribe is coming to you from Amherst, Virginia. Man O' Man its mighty cold here too! This morning I went out to our rental car parked in my sons driveway to pick up my wife's other suitcase and found the water in the bottle I had left in the car had frozen solid.
However as interesting as all that may be the real reason I am writing from Amherst is because when I was perusing the local newspaper, (The News & Advance) I came upon an article that made me think that for a moment I hadn't really left Ventura California. This article was entitled "Planners turn down town home proposal". It seems some developer placed a project before the planning commission dubbed "The Commons at Fort Avenue". He wanted to put up six two bedroom homes on about ½ acre of land. The surrounding area already was covered with single-family homes, and commercial uses such as Pizza Hut, and the La Tienda International Market. The cities planning staff had recommended approval of the proposal.
Then the Virginia Nimby's came a calling, close to (20) twenty neighboring property owners showed up to voice their opposition. Their concerns centered mostly on the "added traffic". The final vote was 3-2 for rejection. So as you can see no matter how far you travel in this enormous country of ours, Nimby's will be Nimby's and Banana's will be Banana's.
