Hiking distance: 5.1-miles round trip. 

Hiking time: 1.75 hours.

Highlights: This network of trails goes through rolling hills and has several spots with panoramic views. The trails have several ascents and descents providing a good workout in the scenic hills between Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

Elevation gain/loss: 605 feet.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Calories burned: 515.

Signs: Trailhead and some junctions have signs and there are mileage posts for first 0.75 mile.

Spurs: None.

Dogs: Leashed canines are permitted on trails

Drinking fountains and picnic tables: None.

Restrooms: Rancho Madera Community Park is 1.5 miles north of the trailhead parking on the east side of Wood Ranch Parkway.

Directions to trailhead: Travel 1.9 miles east on Olsen Road from Highway 23. Turn right on Wood Ranch Parkway and go 2 miles to the intersection with Long Canyon Road. The dirt parking lot is on the right just past the stop sign.

Hiking directions: From the trailhead kiosk, head uphill on West Long Canyon Trail. There is a network of trails, so there will be numerous junctions. Continue straight at the first two junctions, at 0.15 mile and just past the 0.25 mile post. Bear left at the Y junction at 0.29 mile. Turn left at 0.7 mile and continue straight at 0.89 mile. Bear left at the Y junction at 0.93 mile. At 1.35 miles continue straight downhill. At 1.85 miles there is a narrow trail on the right, however, continue straight on the wide road. There is a small foot path on the right at 2.11 miles. Take this a few yards to the other wide fire road and turn right. There is a "Public Trail" sign at 2.23 miles where you will bear right. Again bear right at 2.44 miles. At 2.58 miles you'll pass a fire trail that was cut during last year's brush fire. Next Y junction is at 2.94 miles where you'll bear right. At 3.03 miles, near some old tanks on the left, bear right again. Turn right at 3.18 miles, the left trail leads to Lang Ranch. Continue straight at 3.52 miles at another recent fire trail. At 4.09 miles stay to the left, continuing downhill on the main road. Bear left at 4.2 miles, and continue straight, uphill at 4.28 miles. A sign post is at 4.47 miles, turn right and take the narrow footpath downhill to the parking area. The parking area is at 5.16 miles.
