Local Karate Group Takes Home the Gold!
During a recent weekend on February 2nd, Senpai Shawn Danaher (3rd Degree Shotokan Black Belt) and 16 other members from Victor Young's Camarillo Shotokan Karate-Do Center traveled to the city of Brea to compete in the 2nd "Battle of the Dojos" karate tournament hosted by Master Ken Carr of Ken Carr's Martial Arts. Master Carr is a 6th Dan (Degree) Black Belt in Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu Karate and 7th Dan in Traditional Kobudo (Japanese and Okinawan weapons). When asked about his reasons for hosting this tournament, he explained that it was important to instill the same traditions as he once practiced. He mentioned that it is important to bring karate schools together to interact and exposed them to different styles of traditional martial arts.
The Karate Team from Camarillo, led by team captain Senpai Shawn Danaher expressed that "all of the students who participated on Saturday were winners, not because they won a trophy, but the that experience of the tournament is far more valuable than the trophy/medal received."
Sensei Victor Young (7th Degree Black Belt) is hosting his 21st Annual Invitation Karate Tournament on Sunday, April 27th at Adolfo Camarillo High School. Come join us and see what traditional karate is!
