Supervisors renew term for attorney
Ventura County Counsel Noel Klebaum, the county government's top civil attorney, was appointed Tuesday to a second four-year term by the Board of Supervisors.
Klebaum, 60, has worked in the County Counsel's Office for 18 years and has been in the top spot since 2004. He leads a department of 24 attorneys who advise the county on legal issues, negotiate on its behalf and represent it in court.
Klebaum's new contract takes effect April 1. It was approved Tuesday by the board during a closed-session meeting.
Klebaum's position pays about $204,000 a year, according to the county's human resources Web site.
Fire department gets $20,000 donation
The Ventura County Fire Department has received $20,000, which it will use to buy two thermal-imaging cameras that can help find victims trapped in a fire.
The money was donated by the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. and Petra Risk Solutions.
The camera's technology allows firefighters to see through thick smoke and gases, speeding rescue efforts and making it more likely someone can be pulled alive from a fire.
The camera can also detect fires hidden in or behind walls.
The money will be presented to the Fire Department during a ceremony at noon Thursday at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.
