Goodell will meet with Specter today

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will meet today with Sen. Arlen Specter to discuss the Spygate case involving the New England Patriots.

NFL officials say the afternoon meeting will take place in Specter's office. The Pennsylvania Republican has asked Goodell to explain his decision to destroy the tapes and notes from the case.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 and the team was fined $250,000. The Patriots also forfeited a first-round draft pick.

Giants give Feagles two-year deal: Punter Jeff Feagles, 42, signed a two-year contract with the NFL champion New York Giants, a little more than a week after becoming the oldest player to play in a Super Bowl.

Baseball

Livan Hernandez, Twins reach deal

Right-hander Livan Hernandez and the Minnesota Twins agreed to a $5 million, one-year contract that could earn him an additional $2 million in performance bonuses. Last season, Hernandez made $7 million while going 11-11 with a 4.93 ERA in 33 starts for Arizona. He pitched for the Diamondbacks in the NL Championship Series.

Sprinter Chambers rejoins Britain's team

Sprinter Dwain Chambers will run for Britain at the World Indoor Championships after winning a legal fight to capture a place on the team.

Chambers is among the UK Athletics team announced for the March 7-9 championship in Valencia, Spain. However, the British selection committee said it reluctantly agreed to put Chambers on the team.

Chambers was banned for two years between 2003 and 2005 after testing positive for the steroid THG, and returned to the sport only six weeks ago after flopping as a wide receiver for the NFL Europe team Hamburg Sea Devils.

Tennis

Muller one of three winners in Florida

Gilles Muller defeated wild-card Jessie Levine 7-5, 7-6 (4), one of three matches completed before rain and wind halted play at the International Tennis Championships at Delray Beach, Fla.

The 129th-ranked Muller won his first ATP-level match of the year.

Murray, Ferrero, Baghdatis win: Andy Murray, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Marcos Baghdatis won in straight sets to reach the second round of the Open 13 at Marseille, France.

Coria finally wins: Guillermo Coria defeated qualifier Francesco Aldi 6-4, 7-5 at the Brasil Open at Costa Do Sauipe, Brazil, his first win on the ATP tour in 19 months.

Amaerican Ditty pulls off upset: Julie Ditty of the United States upset eighth-seeded Alona Bondarenko 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Diamond Games at Antwerp, Belgium.
