Free tour of water district facilities offered
The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and the Triunfo Sanitation District will open their doors Feb. 23 for a free tour of facilities that treat 10 million gallons of wastewater from Ventura and Los Angeles counties daily.
Participants will learn about water management issues and view the infrastructure needed to treat wastewater and return it safely to the environment, officials said.
The free bus tour will include visits to the Tapia Water Reclamation and Rancho Las Virgenes Composting facilities. The facilities convert wastewater into recycled water and garden compost.
The two districts serve the communities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Oak Park, Westlake Village, a portion of Thousand Oaks and adjacent unincorporated areas.
The tour is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. at the water district headquarters building at 4232 Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas, and end about 1 p.m.
A complimentary continental breakfast and light lunch will be served.
Space is available to residents of the districts' service areas on a first-come basis. Pre-registration is required. Those interested in making a reservation can go to http://www.lvmwd.com or call 818-251-2100.
The tour is limited to ages 12 and above. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Moderate walking and stairways will be encountered on the tour.
