Couples and restaurants

Here's a look at three husband-and-wife-owned restaurants in Ventura County:

Brooks opened in May at 545 E. Thompson Blvd., Ventura. Lunch is served Tuesdays through Fridays, dinner Tuesdays through Sundays. 652-7070 or http://www.restaurantbrooks.com.

The couple: Executive chef Andy Brooks, 38, and co-owner Jayme Brooks, 37, married on Nov. 7, 2004. Jayme works at the restaurant on weekends; on weekdays, she is a financial analyst for Capstone Turbine Corp. in Chatsworth.

On the menu: Dinner options include pan-seared New York foie gras with honey and white truffle-glazed kumquats and a five-course tasting menu.

Valentine's Day dinner plans: The four-course meal starts with seared diver scallop risotto with blood orange mascarpone and includes choice of pan-seared Kona kampachi or citrus-marinated pork tenderloin before ending with Brooks' Chocolate Reward.

Amuse Bouche Fine Dining opened in May at 5754 E. Los Angeles Ave., Simi Valley. Dinner is served Wednesdays through Sundays. 583-5959 or http://www.myamusebouche.com.

The couple: Executive chef Sylvain Rivet, 44, and co-owner Jo-Anne Rivet, 51, married in 1997. Jo-Anne helps out at the restaurant on Saturdays and Sundays; the rest of the week, she is a managing director for global foreign exchange at Bank of America.

On the menu: Inspired by Sylvain's native France, the regular dinner menu includes escargot au gratin, grilled New York steak with pomme frites and herb-crusted rack of lamb.

Valentine's Day dinner plans: The four-course meal starts with sweet pea soup with petite crab flan and ends with rose petal crême brulée. Entree choices include Chateaubriand for two or duck breast in port-wine sauce.

Jonathan's at Peirano's opened in 1998 at 204 E. Main St., Ventura. Dinner is served daily. 648-4853 or http://www.jonathansatpeiranos.com.

The couple: After marrying on Sept. 1, 2001, executive chef Jason Collis, now 31, and co-owner Jocelyn Collis, 33, bought the restaurant from its husband-and-wife founders, Jonathan and Sharon Enabnit, in 2004. Jocelyn oversees the paperwork and helps out during special events.

On the menu: In keeping with the site's history as a former Italian market, Jonathan's serves pastas and seafood dishes such as cioppino in addition to paella and salmon en croute.

Valentine's Day dinner plans: The four-course meal includes choice of carrot-ginger soup, soy-orange glazed wild salmon, char-grilled filet mignon and chocolate soufflé.
