Winds set to return by Valentine's Day
A cutoff low pressure system will move just to the East of the Southern California area by Valantine's Day. This would put the Ventura areas under a Northern flow. The Northern flow will be just like a Santa Ana Wind event.
Forecasters at the Ontario Weather Service.com say that winds gusting over 40-50 mph or higher are possible with this event. "The winds should last a day before dropping off Friday afternoon.", says owner and lead forecaster Kevin Martin of OWS. The OWS explains that this cutoff low system was toying with forecasters for a week. It first showed rain, but now wind.
No rain is expected with this cutoff low system but Kevin Martin warns it could put a damper on some Valantine's Day plans.
"Because of the moisture content in the lower levels and recent rain activity...no fire watches are expected.", added Martin
The OWS will be issuing wind advisories and watches for this event. They caution that on Thursday, some of these winds could reach 70 mph or more in the favored passes and canyons so drivers beware.
OWS has issued a marine weather statement to warn all ocean activities of the event to come. Sailors can be caught off guard, especially sailing near Malibu.
The OWS expects the winds to arrive with force sometime around sunrise Thursday morning.
