Police use Taser to subdue gunman

Officers used a Taser Saturday night to subdue an uncooperative suspect who was brandishing a gun at two other men around the 100 block of Gay Drive in Ventura.

When police responded to the call, Daniel Rodriguez, 30, of Ventura, was reportedly threatening Cleve Wassel, 41, of Fillmore, and Mark Wassel, 19, of Bakersfield, with the gun.

Police reports say Rodriguez refused to follow officers' orders, so they used a Taser on Rodriguez and arrested him. He was booked him into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of brandishing a firearm, resisting a police officer, carrying a firearm with intent to commit a felony, and of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Wow, good job LEO's, sounds like this could have ended tragically.

Where is Gay Drive? Not familiar with that one. Most of you would have complained that they didn't use a tazer had they shot this guy. Now I see no one wants to comment on VPD doing their job.

To get more of the story maybe you should check the Megans Law website and search for Cevel Wassel in Fillmore. He will pop up with "LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH CHILD UNDER 14 YEARS W/FORCE". Anyone should be able to protect their home and kids from someone that is registered as a sex offender. The kids where forced to go home with this guy and their mother... I think the VPD messed up on this one. They should have been left in the care of their grandparents. Not forced to go home with him.

I just want to clairfy one thing, the kids where not home when all this started. They came home after everything was calm and under control.

If Cleve Wassel were to come in to my home for my grandkids, I would do anything possible to get him out. A known sex offender has no business picking up kids that are not his. The police should have arrested Cleve for doing this. Not Daniel Rodriguez. How could the kids mother enlist the aid of a child molester to pick up her kids?

Jn123456 and davis0701
Maybe you should know the whole story about Cleve before you start casting judgement on him and the children's mother. Daniel has no right to be around those kids. He is nothing but a deadbeat dad and a raging alcoholic. He has never paid a dime of child support for any of his kids, and only see's them when it's convenient for him. When saying that Daniel shouldn't go to jail, you should know that he pointed the loaded gun at an innocent 15 year olds head during his drunken rage. He has a criminal history and his violent temper has gotten him in trouble with the law before. If there's anyone that those kids shouldn't be around its Daniel. The kids weren't forced to go home with their mother, they wanted to!

To JN123456 and davis0701 I know Cleve and what happened 20 years ago when he was forced to plead no contest to something he didn't do. You both are pretty ignorant to think that the grandparents who are a drunk and a pill popper just like their son have any businees keeping those kids! Look at the child they raised. He sure ended up a winner. This isn't the first time that he's pointed a loaded gun at somebody. Daniel is exactly where he belongs in JAIL. This should have happened a long time ago.

daniel sounds like a real winner i bet his parents are real proud of him.

Well I know both the mother and father of these children and frankly either one of there people are fit parents. While they both have their good parental qualities the bad qualities are predominant the father is an alcoholic and the mother is a drug addict. These children need to be with their grandparents with little contact of their parents. Drug and alcohol addictions are hereditary and to prevent this being passed on these children need to be removed from it. As for this 3rd party it was juvenile to bring these people into a place where they are obviously unwelcome and there would be obvious problems, there are far more mature ways to deal with the situation. Especially if the 3rd party was a documented child molester, now that is irresponsible parenting. The saddest part of all this is that the children will suffer over immature parents and bad choices. Heaven help all of people involved especially the children.

And also the gun was NOT loaded.

Well RissaRoo88 I don't know where you get your facts from, but the gun WAS loaded. Ask the VPD. They have the bullets!

Well Missknowit all were you there? And If you were you must be the mother... right?

It is beyond me how anyone can point fingers at one of the parents, they are both unfit!!! An alcoholic and a Britney Spears understudy. I just really hope the children dont end too traumatized by all this.

Posted by missknowitall on February 13, 2008 at 6:15 p.m. (Suggest removal)

No, I'm not the mother. But you obviosly don't know her all that well calling her a "Britney Spears understudy" She has been the only good and constant thing in those children's lives. Like I said before Daniel only see's them when it's convenient for him, and has never paid a dime to support them, while their mother busted her ass as a single parent.

It was a tragedy. This guy is alive and will cost taxpayer dollars instead of being in a morgue.
Police should've put 2 rounds in his head.
