League finish: First, Marmonte League.
Top players: Lorne Jackson, Michael Meza, Brad Lewis.
Overview: Pioneers' top three players are all averaging more than 18 points per game. With an up-tempo game, Simi Valley has scored 80 or more points 13 times. The team's only loss was to nationally ranked Dominguez on a last-second tip-in.
THOUSAND OAKS
Record: 19-7.
League finish: Second place, Pacific View League.
Top players: Ian Douglass, Michael Whalen, Cyrus Kiani.
Overview: Without one player averaging more than nine points a game, the Lancers has relied on overall team balance. In a nine-game stretch late in the season, Thousand Oaks was 7-1 in outcomes decided by six points or less.
AGOURA
Record: 16-10.
League finish: Tied for third, Marmonte League.
Top players: Ben Ricard, Doug Shumway.
Overview: Chargers have had their best win total since finishing 20-6 in the 2000-01 season. Agoura had close games with The Star's top two ranked teams, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks. Ricard ranks as one of the area's top rebounders.
WESTLAKE
Record: 17-9.
League finish: Tied for third, Marmonte League.
Top players: Kyle Olandt, Adam Kolodney.
Overview: The Warriors are at their best when it is an up-tempo game. Kolodney, Olandt and Matt Mazarei can pull the trigger on 3-point shots on the run. Andres Svennifiord is one of the league's best rebounders.
DIVISION I-A
VENTURA
Record: 17-8.
League finish: Third place, Channel League.
Top players: James Staniland, James Ennis.
Overview: Staniland ranks as one of the county's best career 3-point shooters. Ennis brings a strong inside and outside game. The Cougars own one tournament title and a runner-up finish. Overall team speed is one of Ventura's strengths.
DIVISION II-A
OXNARD
Record: 17-8.
League finish: First, Pacific View League.
Top players: Derek Shutt, David Shepherd-Dykes.
Overview: Shutt and Kevin Mulloy give Oxnard a strong inside presence. Unlike past Oxnard teams, this year's squad doesn't use full-court pressure to choke opposing offenses. Still, Oxnard held nine straight opponents to 49 points or fewer.
CAMARILLO
Record: 15-11.
League finish: Second, Pacific View League.
Top players: Steve Plantenberg, Thomas Reilly.
Overview: Four wins in its last five games cemented Camarillo's place as a league runner-up. The rebounding of Reilly, Plantenberg and Josh Creighton has been a source of consistency for the Scorpions.
CHANNEL ISLANDS
Record: 15-9
League finish: Third, Pacific View League.
Top players: Jordan Harris, Henry Cho.
Overview: One year after ending a 40-game league losing streak, Channel Islands has produced its best regular-season record in 10 years. Harris ranks as one of the program's best career rebounders. Henry Cho and Angelo Felix are 3-point shot weapons.
DIVISION III-AA
SANTA CLARA
Record: 19-5.
League finish: Tri-Valley League co-champion.
Top players: Randy Gonzales, Cierre Wood.
Overview: The program has a long history of advancing to the quarterfinals or better. A deep bench gives Santa Clara a chance to rotate players in and out of the lineup. Casi Komski creates havoc with his ability to drive to the basket and dish.
OAK PARK
Record: 20-6.
League finish: Tri-Valley League co-champion
Top players: Bobby Hillard, Andy Winningham.
Overview: Oak Park hasn't finished lower than second in the league since the 1991-92 season. The program has reached the section semifinals in three straight seasons. Hillard had stretch of three straight 20-point games late in the season.
OAKS CHRISTIAN
Record: 20-6.
League finish: Third place, Tri-Valley League.
Top players: Matt Johnson, Tyler McGrath.
Overview: With his size, 6-foot-7 point guard Matt Johnson can be a difficult matchup for any opponent. McGrath can drive and create scoring opportunities. The Lions defense has held seven opponents to 40 or fewer points.
DIVISION V-A
ST. BONAVENTURE
Record: 12-13.
League finish: Frontier League champion.
Top players: Bo Mesick, Blayne Lewis.
Overview: The Seraphs entered the final week of the regular season ranked No. 1 in their division. After losing 10 of first 12 games, St. Bonaventure won 10 straight. Key players return from team that reached V-A semifinals last year.
FILLMORE
Record: 12-13.
League finish: Third place, Frontier League.
Top players: Noah Aguirre, Pablo Ramos.
Overview: The team dedicated the season in memory of coach Chris Cone, who died last fall. Aguirre has become the program's season and career scoring record-holder. Ramos and Vinny Sanchez help take defensive pressure off Aguirre.
Newbury Park Adventist
Record: 16-5.
League finish: Omega League champion.
Top players: Ryan Dolinsky, Alex Roth.
Overview: Newbury Park Adventist won 13 of its last 15 games, including a 12-game winning streak. Team scored 60 or more points nine times. Garrison Lysik had 20 rebounds against La Sierra Academy. This is the program's fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs.
VENTURA COUNTY CHRISTIAN
Record: 8-6.
League finish: Third place, Omega League.
Top players: Michael Beliveau, Brian Tolley.
Overview: Ventura County Christian won six games by 16 points or more, including a 70-11 win over Trinity Lutheran. Beliveau averaged 25.9 points and 11.6 rebounds.
THACHER
Record: 9-7.
League finish: Condor League champion.
Overview: After a five-game losing streak, Toads won seven of their last eight games. Thacher was 3-1 against Ventura County teams, including wins over Omega League champion Newbury Park Adventist and Villanova.
GIRLS
DIVISION I-AA
VENTURA
Record: 24-2.
League finish: Channel League champion.
Top players: Victoria Brubaker, Laura Easterling.
Overview: Thirty-two minutes of intense defensive pressure has been Ventura's calling card to a state ranking. Ventura hasn't backed away from a tough non-league schedule that has included Marlborough, Perris, Cajon and Royal. Ventura was 3-0 against rival Buena.
BUENA
Record: 17-9.
League finish: Channel League runner-up.
Top players: Amelia Mathis, Holly Holcomb.
Overview: Buena has set school game and season records for 3-point field goals. Mathis and Amanda Padilla are a strong guard tandem. Holcomb rates as one of the county's top rebounders. The program has never failed to reach the playoffs in its 35-year history.
ROYAL
Record: 22-4.
League finish: Marmonte League champion.
Top players: Erika Ward, Kris King.
Overview: The Highlanders made their mark in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, holding their own against Pacific Hills, Troy and Ventura. Ward has made five or more 3-pointers three times this season.
NEWBURY PARK
Record: 11-14.
League finish: Marmonte League runner-up.
Top players: Doris Park-Sherman, Sidney Dobner.
Overview: Park-Sherman has had 20 or more rebounds twice this season. A season-ending injury to Sarah Godfrey contributed to a slow start for Newbury Park. Win over Royal midway into the league season put the Panthers in title contention.
THOUSAND OAKS
Record: 15-11.
League finish: Third place, Marmonte League.
Top players: Jenna Bandy, Katie Deamer.
Overview: Thousand Oaks recorded the most wins for the program in a decade. Bandy scored 20 or more points in a game six times. Freshman forward Karina Alofaituli has made an impact in the league season.
MOORPARK
Record: 16-10.
League finish: Fourth place, Marmonte League.
Top players: Lauren Carter, Megan Natelson.
Overview: Natelson ranks high on program lists for career assists and steals. Carter is an outstanding rebounder and one of the county's top scorers. Moorpark was runner-up in two December tournaments.
DIVISION II-AA
OAKS CHRISTIAN
Record: 18-4.
League finish: Tri-Valley League co-champion.
Top players: Chelsea Carlisle, Katie Brooks.
Overview: In a three-game stretch in January, Carlisle scored total of 88 points. She has had a high of 11 assists. Oaks Christian won 15 of 17 games in one stretch. Brooks can be a dominant rebounder. Christine Escoto is a 3-point threat.
FILLMORE
Record: 19-7.
League finish: Tri-Valley League co-champion.
Top players: Rebecca Herrera, Aimee Orozco.
Overview: Flashes won the program's first league championship in 11 years. Despite the overall youth of the team, four players have earned three varsity letters. Jill Wilber is a solid 3-point shooter. Team averages more than 60 points per game.
ST. BONAVENTURE
Record: 18-6.
League finish: Third place, Tri-Valley League.
Top players: Shelby Babcock, Erica Whitley.
Overview: Babcock became the program's career scoring leader midway through the season. Whitley set program record with nine 3-point field goals in a game. Jeanette Wiliams and Jessica Castro are program veterans.
OAK PARK
Record: 10-14.
League finish: Fourth place, Tri-Valley League.
Top players: Lauren Varney, Erin Somers.
Overview: Eagles upset TVL co-champion Fillmore in final game of the regular season. Somers made six 3-point field goals in a game twice. Varney, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds for Oak Park.
DIVISION III-AA
OXNARD
Record: 22-4.
League finish: Pacific View League champion.
Top players: Kiana Vines, Keani Albanez.
Overview: Lady Jackets have won 15 of their last 16 games. Team did not miss a beat after coach Kenny Plummer resigned midway through the season. Oxnard asserts full-court pressure and strength up the middle to become a team to watch.
CHANNEL ISLANDS
Record: 15-8.
League finish: Second place, Pacific View League.
Top players: Arlene Cortez, Maye Danganan.
Overview: Despite loss of senior guard Tina Arenas before the start of the season, Channel Islands regrouped with the emergence of Danganan and Courtney Rabbs in the backcourt. Arlene Cortez anchors the paint.
RIO MESA
Record: 13-12.
League finish: Third place, Pacific View League.
Top players: Julissa DeVad, Stephanie Ramirez.
Overview: Won playoff game against Pacifica. Graduation of key players and an early-season injury to Leah Crier made the road difficult for a young Rio Mesa team. After a 1-5 start, Rio Mesa won nine of its next 11 games. DeVad is the Spartan's best offensive threat.
DIVISION IV-A
THACHER
Record: 10-9.
League finish: Condor League champion.
Top players: Mariah Gill-Erhart, Audra Horton.
Overview: Six of losses were to teams that advanced to the postseason. Thacher scored 59 or more points seven times. The Toads closed out the regular season with a four-game winning streak.
NEWBURY PARK ADVENTIST
Record: 15-6.
League finish: Omega League champion.
Top players: Twyla Evano, Erin Truex.
Overview: After five losses in first seven games, Newbury Park Adventist won 13 consecutive games. The Gators held 12 opponents to 30 or fewer points. The team averaged 10.3 steals and 2.8 blocked shots per game.
DIVISION V-AA
VILLANOVA
Record: 17-7.
League finish: Frontier League champion.
Top players: Hannah Kolbeck, Kaitlin Reilly.
Overview: Program has won four consecutive league championships, including the last two Frontier titles. Villanova has lost just three league games in last four years. Kolbeck and Reilly are team's best rebounders and scorers.
La Reina
Record: 14-10.
League finish: Tied for third, Frontier League.
Top players: Jenna Burge, Mary Kate Jankowski.
Overview: Jankowski had 23 rebounds and 23 points against St. Genevieve. Burge had team-best 28 points against league champion Villanova. Three of last four opponents were held to less than 30 points.
