Gallegly files papers for re-election

Seeking to put an end to rumors and speculation about his political future, Rep. Elton Gallegly filed his nomination papers for re-election this morning at the very first moment he could do so.

"I paid the fee and I took the oath," Gallegly said. "And I know what the rules are."

Two years ago, confusion about the rules created an embarrassment when Gallegly announced his intention to retire, only to find out he could not withdraw his name as a candidate after having already filed his nomination papers.

In the end, Gallegly decided not to retire and successfully ran for re-election to his 11th term.

"We were going through some health issues that were unresolved," Gallegly said this morning. "They have been resolved to more than my satisfaction."

The candidate-filing period for the June primary opened Monday and will run through March 7. Partisan primaries will be held June 3 in all congressional and legislative districts in California.

The old man must really be scared of Tom McClintock. Oh well, I hear McClintock plans to run for this seat anyway - Gallegly or no Gallegly.

This should whip the local liberals into a right good froth.

Wow! You mean he actually figured out how to file this time? Impressive. I doubt McClintock will run because in Ventura County republicans are not allowed to run against other Republicans. They prefer ballots that look like the old U.S.S.R. ballots with only one choice.

I think Congressman Gallegly's health issues should be publically resolved to the voters' satisfaction also.

Glad to hear it and respect Mr. Gallegly for all he tries to do for us. Wish we had more like him.

Thank you Elton for standing by the people of Ventura County. We will need experienced Republcans to act as the loyal opposition to an apparent blue Democratic tide that will sweep the country in November. Elton Gallegly has been a loyal public servant and fantastic Congressman.

Yeah Thanks Elton! Now when Bush leaves office we can rest easy knowing you'll still be there to push his sick, twisted agenda! YAY!! There is no bigger rubber stamp for this Administration that you Elton! And to think you do it in our (Ventura County citizens) names! Boy are we LUCKY!!

DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS MAN! The only good thing that he ever did while in office was to establish a service medal for military personnel that served in South Korea after the cease fire of 1953. Then you had to solicit the Department of Defense in order to receive it. Its less troubling by just buying it on eBay! If this man never serves another term it will be too soon!!

I’ll tell you what: Mr. Gallegly always responds when my family or I have written to him asking for help with federal government matters. His office has always been glad to assist with whatever problems we’ve encountered over the years, whether we call or write.

That’s more than I can say for some of these other politicians. We are always advised to “write to your legislators” when we have a problem, but how many will even acknowledge your contact with them? For example, I’ve contacted State Senators Boxer and Feinstein, regarding matters within their jurisdiction, with no reply of any kind.

Mr. Gallegly cares about those he represents. I wish him the best of luck!
