Verizon restores voice mail
Verizon Communications Inc. restored voice mail service at 3 a.m. Saturday, three days after the service went down.
The disruption, caused by a problem with the telephone company's database server, affected about 740,000 land-line customers in California.
Verizon sent recorded phone messages to its customers apologizing for the inconvenience and notifying them that their bills will be credited for the value of one month's voice mail service, $5 for residential customers and $15 for businesses.
With 740,000 affected customers, the credits will amount to millions of dollars.
