Defending champ Agoura could face Laguna Beach in girls' water polo quarterfinals

The two returning Division II girls' water polo finalists appear headed for an early rematch.

Defending champion Agoura High and Laguna Beach could meet as early as Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Agoura, the Marmonte League champion, was unseeded for the Division II postseason.

The Chargers open the playoffs at home Thursday against the winner o Tuesday's Capistrano Valley at Ventura wild-card game. Fourth-seeded Laguna Beach, the Orange Coast League champion, faces Brea Olinda at home Thursday.

Agoura defeated Laguna Beach, 11-10, in the 2007 Division II championship game.

Channel League champion Dos Pueblos was seeded No. 1 in Division II girls' water polo. The Chargers will open the playoffs Thursday at 3:15 p.m. at home against Newbury Park.

Royal, runner-up to Agoura in the Marmonte League, will be on the road against South Coast champion San Clemente on Tuesday. If Royal wins, it could face No. 2 seed Villa Park at home on Saturday.

In the only other Division II wild-card game Tuesday, Thousand Oaks hosts Canyon/Anaheim.

Tri-Valley League champion Malibu was awarded the No. 3 seeding in the 32-team Division IV draw. Malibu and Pacific View League champion Rio Mesa, the No. 4 seed, drew first-round byes. Both teams will have home games Thursday.

Pacifica opens the Division IV postseason at home against Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks. In other Division IV first-round games Tuesday involving area teams: Camarillo travels to Paso Robles, Carpinteria hosts Glendale and Cate visits Santa Ynez.

The Division II and IV championship games are schedules for Feb. 23.
