Foreign correspondence

Arnold Dorenz Komola, 22, is studying for an MBA at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. He is from Kadoma, Zimbabwe. (Because of the volatile political situation there, the U.S. State Department advises checking before making travel plans.)

Q. Is Zimbabwe a good place for adventure tourists?

A. Yes, but not this March; that's when the national elections are being held and there may be some political turbulence. But later in the year, things should be OK. The inflation is crazy.

Q. Aren't there famous ruins there?

A. Yes, it's called Great Zimbabwe and is in Masvingo. The name of our country comes from those ruins. In the days of our (11th- to 15th-century) ancestors, people built places where they worshipped and where they went to war. The ruins are a stone labyrinth with rock tunnels. The people would draw the enemy into the complex, where they'd get lost. It would give defenders the advantage. It's one story with towers.

Q. What are other must-see sites?

A. Victoria Falls is one of the wonders of the world and is truly beautiful. It's part of a national park, and you stay in hotels built to resemble huts. You hear the sound of the falls; you get the haze and constant shower from the falls. There's always a rainbow. You can bungee jump from the bridge.

Our country has great national parks. It is famous for our animals, and a big part of tourism is people coming to see them.
