Lauren Donahue, arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stabbing her mother to death in Simi Valley, is scheduled to face a formal murder charge in Ventura County court today.

Donahue, 41, is being held in county jail in lieu of $525,000 bail.

She was arrested in Santa Clarita about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, more than six hours after police found her mother, Rose Weiss, 69, stabbed to death at her home in the 5300 block of Diane Street in Simi Valley, police said.

Citing a continuing investigation, Simi Valley police declined Thursday to release further details about the killing, including what led them to arrest Donahue.

Detectives also declined to say why police had responded to the Weiss home numerous times before Tuesday's killing.

According to Social Security and Internet database records, Weiss was married to Victor Weiss, a well-known sports promoter found slain in North Hollywood in 1979. Police would not confirm the relationship, and a family member declined to comment Thursday.

Best-selling author Michael Connelly wrote an article about Victor Weiss' killing in 1989 and later partly based a novel on the case.

Victor's son, Wolf Weiss, was killed in 2004 in Iraq, where he was working for a private security firm, according to neighbors and published accounts.

Earlier that year, Rolling Stone published a story about Wolf's security work in Iraq and career as a rock musician.
