Police said they found the body of a slain Simi Valley woman Tuesday afternoon at a home in a quiet residential neighborhood on the east side of town.
Sgt. Adam Darough, a spokesman for the Simi Valley Police Department, said Rose Weiss, 69, was dead when officers arrived at her home at Diane Street and Emory Avenue about 2:45 p.m.
Investigators have determined her death to be a homicide, but the manner and cause of death were still under investigation late Tuesday evening, Darough said.
The department's detective division is investigating persons of interest in the killing, he said.
Heavily armed officers combed the neighborhood with dogs after the body was discovered.
A call was received at 2:44 p.m. reporting "suspicious circumstances" in the 5300 block of Diane Street, Darough said.
He would not say if Weiss was found inside or outside the home.
Investigators combed the area around the home for evidence into the late afternoon and early evening.
One investigator was seen taking swabs from a sidewalk along the side of the home, placing the material collected into a container.

Could the woman, Rose Weiss, found dead yesterday be the former wife of Vic Weiss, murdered 29 years ago in a mob style hit?

I live right across the street from the victim. I came home from work sick around 1, left to go to the dr. and was back at the house around 2:30. I didn't see or hear anything. At around 3:00 we saw one officer arrive and look over the wall into the backyard. Then all of the sudden there were around 10 cop cars, fire trucks, ambulances, detectives in suits... There was a young boy and young girl (13-16 years old?) sitting outside the house on the curb talking to police and detectives. There were a lot of us standing outside trying to figure out what happened. Some kids on bikes rode further down the street and pointed out the blood on the sidewalk to the cops. There have been police at that house a few times since we've lived here, but we never knew why. EDITED BY MODERATOR.

I wonder shy the moderator edited the comment by jennilsh. I didn't see anything in the story that mentioned vic Weiss. Interesting. I would like to know more about the circumstances if anyone or the reporters know

I think it was edited because she said who she and her neighbors thought was the suspect of Rose's murder.

I'm assuming they edited it because it was a rumor and they don't want to be held responsible for something that isn't backed up by law inforcement. Who knows? It seems as though people are lawsuit happy. I guess you have to be careful! However, you were PRETTY CLEAR in stating that it was just the "word around the neighborhood".

I thought this stuff only happened in Oxnard?

I am pretty sure they edited it because I said it was rumored that the daughter was the suspect (notice I said rumored and suspect)...now they just broke the story that the daughter was arrested. They probably didnt want me spoiling their story.

Lauren is not just a drug addict. She is Bi-Polar and has been since she was a very young girl. I am not trying to defend her but I do think our country should do more to help the mentally disabled. Unfortunately this is a very sad tragety that maybe could have been avoided if she was provided adequate healthcare.

Lisam: Being bi-polar does not mean that you are unable to distinguish right from wrong. This suspect made a horrible CHOICE, and is now going to pay for it.
