Divine details create elegant estate

Nestled among the rolling hills above Camarillo is a small enclave of homes in a gate guarded community called Altamont. With views from the mountains to the ocean, it's minutes from the city yet miles away in spirit. On a promontory at the end of the street is a spectacular home with an incredible view. Resting on 10 acres, surrounded by open space, Realtor Scott Puckett described it poetically. "At night with the lights down in the city, it might sound a little romantic, but it feels like a castle."

The Tuscan-inspired architectural design begins with the home's tiled roof and natural stone-accented exterior. From the paved stone walkway leading to the custom leaded-glass entry doors, the dedication to quality is evident. Entering the home, the attention to detail is obvious beginning with the mosaic marble foyer. Designed in tones of beige and terra cotta, it accents the recessed ceiling dome above, from which hangs a custom wrought-iron chandelier.

The majestic entry includes a waterfall encased in a carved wooden and granite surround, setting a tranquil mood. Touches of an Italian influence are found throughout the home. The Venetian plaster walls, in a soft buttery tone, give the home a warm and welcoming feel. The entry way opens to the family room, where floor-to-ceiling picture windows showcase the magnificent views of the hills and city below.

Tearing yourself away from the view is only possible when you see the adjoining gourmet kitchen. The centerpiece of the kitchen is a large island, made from a single slab of Jurassic Brown granite. With seating for four, the island is lit from above by four ceramic glass drop lights. Containing one of two kitchen sinks, the granite's tones of brown, beige and black are a nice complement to the maple-stained cabinets. The custom cabinets, with self-closing doors and drawers, include a built-in spice rack, Lazy Susans and pull-out pantry drawers.

Stainless steel Thermidor Professional appliances include a six-burner range, dual-fueled by gas or electricity. Above the range is a painted tile scene of Lake Cuomo, another of the home's subtle Italian influences. The marble backsplash is accented with small copper tile inlays. Off the kitchen, sliding French doors open to the covered balcony. The travertine flooring found throughout the kitchen and family room extends to the balcony. A Viking professional BBQ and outdoor sink line one side of the balcony. Sitting at the outdoor dining table, with another incredible view and the subtle ocean breezes, Puckett says you feel "transported to the French Riviera."

Built in 2005, this four-bedroom, four-bath home has more than 4,120 square feet of living space.

In addition to the kitchen and family rooms, the main level features a formal dining room, living room and master bedroom. The dining room, with a recessed dome painted a deep blue, sets the scene for an elegant dinner or special family occasion. Next to the dining room, the formal living room features a fireplace with custom travertine stone work, in hues of gold and cream.

The spacious master bedroom, with sitting room and balcony, overlooks the back patio (another incredible view). Two vanities, made from Spanish Rojo Alicante Marble, are separated by the large Italian porcelain-tiled shower, complete with six shower heads. A Jacuzzi tub, encased in the same marble, surrounded by windows, sits across from the shower. A walk-in closet with built-in organizers completes the room.

A marble stairway leads to the home's lower level. The game room at the bottom of the stairs has a Tuscan-inspired ceiling. Fans driven by a 19th Century-styled Fanimation system descend from the coffered ceiling. The slate flooring is accented by burgundy walls with maple wainscoting. A stacked stone fireplace along the far wall separates the cut glass shelving on either side. Granite counters underneath house a two-drawer refrigerator, and a wet bar with copper.

A recessed 119-inch television screen descends at the touch of a button. The InFocus television projection system, with 14 surround speakers, instantly turns the room into a home theatre. Or if you prefer to catch a game while playing pool, two wall-mounted plasma screen TVs hang from either side of the room.

French doors lead to the outside patio, making this room ideal for entertaining, inside and out.

A small office adjacent to the game room houses the homes video and audio components; an adjoining room would make an ideal wine cellar.

To the right of the game room is the guest bedroom complete with bath, and private access to the backyard. To the left are two more bedrooms. Sunny and spacious, with large closets and private entrance, they share a bathroom across the hall. All the bedrooms have ceiling fans.

Crown molding, custom baseboards, arched windows and doors throughout are just a few of the home's additional amenities. Safety features include an intercom system, a voice-activated security system and wiring for outdoor security cameras, as well as CO2-thermal smoke detectors and sprinklers. A dual-zoned heating and air condtioning system and tankless water heater have been installed for comfort.

The home's exterior has a terraced patio built of pavers. Stairs off the covered patio outside the game room lead to a large patio with built-in fire pit. Built-in planter boxes accent the patio and lawns. Palm trees dot the side yard. With 10 acres there is plenty of room to expand the yard to include a small orchard of avocado trees or vineyard, or simply enjoy the natural landscaping.

Two large garages, a double and a single, have separate entrances. Compressed air lines for power tools are in the shop/garage. Three storage areas under the home are accessible from the outside.

This elegant home with its peaceful and private location is located at 17 Altamont Way. It is offered at $1,879,000.
