Sheriff’s deputies arrested a motorist Tuesday who fled after the vehicle he was driving hit a wall near Crestview Avenue and Valley Vista Drive in Camarillo, authorities said.

Deputies said the driver, Jose Martinez, 27, fled from the vehicle after the crash, which occurred at 3:02 p.m.

Deputies used helicopters to look for Martinez, who was arrested a short time later at a nearby avocado orchard, authorities said. Martinez was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run. In addition, he had a $10,000 warrant for failure to appear in court, officials said.

Two other people were inside the vehicle at the time. Both suffered minor injuries, deputies said.

I saw the helicopter yesterday. I looked in todays paper for something about it and found NOTHING. I got an email from a friend who told of it. I found this article in the newspapers website. WHY WAS THIS NOT IN OUR PAPER?? As a Camarillo resident I want to know what is happening in our city. There is a lot that goes on here that we are not informed of. Sometimes things will come out about Cam in the Oxnard paper but not here. I want better coverage in Camarillo. That is why I buy a paper.

What a waste of K-9 & human resources & aviation fuel. And that fuel IS expensive. All because some ahem, dude, didn't realize that not wearing a seat belt gives the cops probable cause to pull you over and run a warrant check on you. Well, it's back to the slammer for Mr. colonia chiques, where he'll probably have a couple of years to think about the consequences of his "crime"... NOT wearing a seat belt. Sheesh.
