Overloaded electrical strip ignites fire
Oxnard firefighters extinguished a blaze Wednesday after an overloaded electrical strip caught fire in a garage on the 1900 block of Majorca Drive.
Firefighters said a woman at The Colony condominium complex called 911 after smelling smoke.
The smoke was coming from an attached garage "where too many appliances were plugged in to one extension cord," said Deborah Shane, a spokeswoman for the Oxnard Fire Department.
The garage is in the middle of a five-unit complex. Had the fire not been extinguished quickly it could have easily spread into the adjoining garages, officials said.
Oxnard fire investigators said the fire caused about $60,000 in damage. No one was injured in the blaze.
Fire officials said plug strips should have a built-in circuit breaker as a protection from fire.
