Grace Brethren High School's Girls Soccer program hosted the 1st Annual Winter Classic last weekend. The tournament hosted teams from Santa Barbara, Ventura County, Los Angeles, San Gabriel and the Palmdale area.

The Grace Brethren Girls had a strong showing in the tournament, first hosting LA Baptist in a first round match on Friday evening. Grace recorded a 3-0 victory, with 2 goals scored by Senior forward Amanda Quick. Brianne Lundgren added another goal late in the contest to seal this first round win. In their semi-final match, Grace Brethren held on to beat San Gabriel Mission 1-0 on a goal by Quick, assisted by Whitney Love. Junior Goalkeeper, Jenny Gomez recorded her second shutout of the tournament.

Grace then faced a strong Vasquez team in the finals. Fans witnessed a hard fought match that was scoreless at the half. The first goal came with only 3 minutes to play in the game, when Vasquez was able to slip one by the strong Grace Brethren defense. Vasquez High School became the first GBHS Winter Classic Champions, winning the match, 1-0.

Senior defender Meghan Reno, Senior midfielder Janine Marderian, Amanda Quick and Jenny Gomez were selected for the All-Tournament team.
