Man shot in front of 10-year-old son during apparent robbery later dies

Oxnard police are asking for the public's help

Police and Fire:

A 32-year-old man was shot to death in Oxnard Monday night after leaving a car dealership where he worked.

Police said a gunman ordered the man to lie on the ground at gunpoint before demanding his personal property and then shooting him in the torso about 8:40 p.m. The man's 10-year-old son, who was with him at the time, was unharmed, police said.

Police said the man was taken to St. John's Regional Medical Center where he died while undergoing surgery.

Police are asking for the public's help in solving this crime. The shooting happened along the 800-block of South Oxnard Boulevard.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 805-385-7649 or 805-982-7070.

The Ventura County Fire Department was enroute to a structure fire this morning along the 100-block of Sidlee Street in Thousand Oaks. There was no further information on the fire as of 6:45 a.m.

Weather:

There will be patchy fog along much of the county until 10 a.m. today, the National Weather Service is reporting. Otherwise it will be cloudy through mid-morning and then mostly sunny with a high near 63.

Overnight, the fog will return after 10 p.m. with a low of about 44.

This is terribly sad news...especially for the little boy who had to witness this. How can someone be so cold-hearted to not only take someones's life away, but in front of your own family? Very sad.

IT'S OFFICIAL !!!!!!!!

(AP).. Oxnard Ca.

Oxnard now takes the lead over Baghdad in violence!!! The A.P. reports that the number of killings in Oxnard, California outnumbers its' rival in Baghdad, Iraq. The mayor of Oxnard reports that he is thinking of making Baghdad Oxnard's new sister city stating that Chief of Police John Crombach wants to meet with officials in Baghdad to find out what they have done to curtail the violence. President Elect Obama is considering a police pullout from Oxnard and letting the thugs take over. He said that when he takes over he is going to send Hillary Clinton into Colonia to meet with the "shot callers" of colonia chiquez to work out a surrender. He is going to offer a spreading of the wealth by taxing the residents of Oxnard Shores another 20% to fund the surrender. Last report has seen Joe the Plumber on Saviers Road trying to stop the cesspool of scum seeping from the east side.

"The man's 10-year-old son, who was with him at the time, was unharmed, police said." Physically, he's unharmed; mentally, he's harmed for life... such a tragedy for this child and the family. And it angers me that some knothead would do this... hope he gets caught, some how, some way. Or just as good, he od's on the dope he'll probably buy with the money he stole.

ILUVOXNARD2: Of course I'm not proud one bit of what's going on, but complaining ain't damn well gonna do any good.

From my part, I'm doing what I can, but of course, we, the residents, need the WHOLE CITY to become in someway involved and put an end to this.

Hey Lawabider!

ILUVOXNARD, you're right, what is happening in Oxnard is very disgusting. BUT, there are many good citizens, myself included. These criminals don't represent me or the city I live in, if they represent you, then you need to look within yourself and ask yourself why. Should I be ashamed of where I grew up and still live? No. For some strange reason people don't stand against what is going on. I witnessed an accident this morning and I pulled over, waited for the officer and gave my statement. There were people telling me that many accidents happen in that intersection yet no one ever stays to give their eyewitness account. It's up to us to report what is going on.

This indiscriminate killing of innocent people has to be stopped. No one desrves to be shotfor sure, but guns seem to be a way of life for some. Plaxico Burress is a good example. The man makes a ton of money, yet jeopardizes his life as well as others by carrying a fully loaded Glock into a nightclub. Mandatory prison time should be given to anyone caught carrying a weapon without a permit.

Posted by Arod on December 2, 2008 at 9:43 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Plaxico is an idiot, it doesn't count as gun violence if you accidentally shoot yourself.

This is so tragic! For What... his personal property... maybe 20 bucks in his wallet, maybe a ring and a watch. I am sure the victim handed them over without complaint.

For the killer to look the child in the eyes then kill their Daddy ...unbelievable.

We need more capital punishment in this country. I am sick of paying for these POS living in jail with better food and housing and health care then law abiding people.

When will the rights focus back on the people who deserve them instead of criminals.

The US is the highset spender on jails with the highest percentage of repeat offenders. Think about this... if jail was so bad why do they go back? Because it's no big deal to do time in the US. Hey, you get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head, movies / TV and if you get sick, you have healthcare readily available. I want change... this means quit with the handouts and get to work.

at8man, you make a valid point. I've seen way too many weapons charges dumbed down to misdemeanors, even for known bangers. It all goes to my frequent point that public safety must take priority over prisoner comfort and health. We don't put prisoners in prison ... they do it to themselves by their actions.

Tacos from Taco de Mexico on Saviers or on 7th street are the best around (IMO). I can vouch for the fact that it's nice living in River Ridge and California Cove. The golf course is not bad. There's a Costco (I like Costco). Mandalay Beach is nice to take your kids (if you don't mind the nippy weather at times). Andrea's at the Wharf is the BEST fish and chips around. When it's REALLY hot in Camarillo...it's about 5-8 degrees cooler in Oxnard. When it's REALLY COLD in Ventura, it's about 5-8 degrees warmer in Oxnard.

Tragic. Stealing is bad enough. I simply cannot get my head around the fact that this maggot shot and killed a man when he was going to get his way. Add to that that he shot him in front of his son and it just makes me so sad at the emptiness and cruelty some people display. I cringe knowing that we're sharing the same space as these losers.

My heart goes out to this man's son. May he and his family find some peace in the coming weeks.

And Jesus, what was the purpose of your comment asking whether the shooter or incompetent drs killed the man? Do you have a problem with drs? The murdering s*um who shot him killed him. Period. The victim would never have been on the operating table if he hadn't been shot.

Beahappi: "And I even love the smells that come from our farmland...it means that there still is land that's not developed."

(terrorist fist bump)....Right on. Ignorant people readily compare Oxnard to a 3rd world country yet are far from capable of even describing life in a 3rd world country. People really OVER-REACT to crime and gang activity in Oxnard. Gangmembers only make up 1% of the population. That means for ever 100 people you meet in Oxnard, 1 is a gangmember (oooh...spooky!!!)....and the other 99 are most likely normal people that have a 9-5 or (in these times) a 9-5 and a part-time somewhere.

Ignorant people should really keep their comments to themselves...they only serve to demonstrate their stupidity to everyone else on this thread.

Condolences to the family of the man. Another boy raised without a Father. A REAL shame. Hope they catch the jerk that did this. My friend was shot in the torso a few years ago and also died on the operating table at St. John's and left behind a baby boy...it's really not the Dr.s more so than it is the damage that each bullet can make once it enters the body.

Six People Indicted In Death Of Oxnard Businessman

Grand Jury Charges Alleged Gunman, 5 Others, In Killing Outside Bank
By: KVTA News
2008-12-01

Six people have been indicted in connection with the August robbery and killing of Oxnard businessman Gurmohinder Singh outside the US Bank on Oxnard Boulevard. Up to now, the only person publicly accused with the crime has been the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Jeffrey Aguilar of Oxnard. He's been in jail since his arrest about a week after the crime and recently pleaded not guilty. But Monday, a Ventura County Grand Jury indictment was unsealed that recharged Aguilar and 5 others in connection with the crime. In addition to Aguilar, 27-year-old Maria Bucio of Oxnard and 25-year-old Mario Cervantes of Port Hueneme, are also facing robbery, murder and special circumstance allegations that could bring a death sentence. Three others were also indicted as accessories. They are 23-year-old Chrystal Ceja of Oxnard, who is charged with money laundering for allegedly trying to "launder" the money taken from Singh, 25-year-old Lance Brown of Oxnard, and 21-year-old Christina De Leon of Oxnard, who is the only one of the six who is still at large. An arraignment for all six on the indictments is scheduled for January 8th. The indictment means there is no preliminary hearing. All six will be arraigned and then go straight to trial. While Aguilar, Bucio, and Cervantes could all face the death penalty, the District Attorney's office has not decided yet if it will pursue a death sentence in the case, and if so, against just one of them, or all three.

Anyone got any ideas because obviously our council members and law enforcement aren't listening. I am doing my part as a loving and hard working mother and involved in my community and other people's children's lives as best I can, but we need help!
I know for a fact OXPD and other organizations read the comments on this blogs. Therefore, maybe they can send some suggestions or advice this way. One thing is for sure ladies and gentlemen. We have to report crime. We can't be afraid. We need to unite and stand tall together. God help us.

Until we run the ACLU out of town, and place an injunction on every single street gang in existence, we are tying the hands of prosecutors and police. Nothing will change, and slowly every city will become a war zone. I'm sick and tired of the graffiti, the crime, the cold-blooded murder, and the arrogance with which these shaved head little monkeys roam our streets. Seriously folks, we need to get back to the time when the bad people were afraid of the good.

marco85: Fight Fear with Fear huh? That's just like saying "the war on terrorism"...and THAT is an oxymoron. The issue of gangs and violence is multi-faceted. Both Sociological and Economical factors come into play. I just don't think city government and law enforcement are even capable of recognizing that and proposing solutions that address each sub-issue causing the crime. Let alone the fact that crime notoriously climbs during econonmically trying times in all levels of society. It's harldy a topic that will get resolved in this thread by one of us.

My heart goes out this young man's family, to his little boy. My family's prayers are with you...and before anyone makes any comments about "why the Good Lord allowed this to happen?", He did not. The Lord gave us free will and the unfortunate death of this young man is a result of the actions of a coward, not the Good Lord.

AVDirtFarm,

You are absolutely not alone. I am proud to be an Oxnardian through and through. I grew up there and may I say what a magnificent childhood I had, so full of beautiful memories. Lots of people here consider Rose Park/La Colonia the root of all evil in Oxnard, some would say all of VC. This could just as easily be the case in Camarillo, Simi, and even T.O. Bad things happen everywhere, not just in Oxnard. To all of you people that speak negatively about Oxnard every time an incident like this happens; rather than continuing to post your useless remarks, do something productive.

I'm not going to add to the Oxnard bashing, but seriously you folk that live there know just how dangerous a place it most certainly IS becoming... I communicate with people in New York, Florida and Missouri that all ask me, "what's up with Oxnard?"... So your reputation is getting beyond the borders of Ventura County for its senseless acts of violence. I agree with the other mother above that said we need to stand united to combat crime -- Hey, Dave, where's your recommendation for the citizens to assist law enforcement? lawabider: The only reason that Oxnard was put on the map in this country related to acts of violence was the Larry King Murder. Don't attempt to insinuate that this 32-year old's murder will be in this week's Time Magazine for everyone in New York, Florida and Missouri to read. It's like saying, "what's up with Columbine? School kids aren't safe there." or, "What's up with Manhattan night clubs? Over-paid and over-rated NFL wideouts aren't safe from their own weapons there." Catch my drift?

Jiminy,

Are you insinuating that I'm ignorant for saying Oxnard has a high crime rate?? Maybe you need to face reality, I didn't create the numbers. 2.8 per 1,000 residents in Ventura commited violent crimes, -vs- 4.6 in Oxnard.

That would imply that maybe you should be the one checking out what you're saying before saying it.

Idle speculation... Is this killing related to the Gormohinder Singh murder/robbery? KVTA is reporting the victim in this case as Uriel Loya-Bucio (32). A previous poster pointed out that one of those charged with Mr. Singh's murder is Maria Urena-Bucio (27). Others are charged with money-laundering. Was the car lot where Mr. Loya-Bucio worked used to launder cash obtained in the robbery and murder of Mr. Singh? Businesses where large amounts of cash are traded - car lots, etc. - can be utilized to "clean-up" ill-gotten money. Why would Mr. Loya-Bucio's "robber" shoot him and not the son, when both could potentially be witnesses to the crime? Did Mr. Loya-Bucio know too much about other things? Something smells here, and it's not just the usual farm fertilizer that permeates Oxnard. Stay tuned.

T'S OFFICIAL !!!!!!!!

(AP)..

I live in Oxnard and except for crime like this, it really isn't too bad considering this that is the biggest city in Ventura County. What people really need to do is help by reporting suspicious behavior and don't refuse to get involved. Your life may depend on it one day. Condolences go out to this poor family from me.

BabyzDaddy_01: Yes, I DO mean fight fear with fear, because it's the only thing some people understand. Anyone who would shoot a man in front of his child, after he complied with all this animal's demands, is beyond reasoning with. The faltering economy is not responsible for such viciousness. Please spare us all your elitist intellectualism, with all your socio-economic blah, blah, blah, and your moral relativism. There are evil people in the world, and they need to be met with brute force. We've lost that simple concept in this society, and that's why things are turning to crap here. I'm not talking vigilantes, or mob rule...I'm talking about a state of mind that will return us to a certain standard of living, where the people who play by the rules, respect others and their property, and do good in the world, are rewarded for it. And those that cause us harm are punished. Put that in your "sub-issues" and smoke it!

When do we say “enough is enough”…, there are more good people in Oxnard than there are of the heartless – this blog indicates the caring as well as the seeking of 15min’s of fame. Those whom have grown up in Oxnard have seen change the “good , bad…and so on”, we are not immune to crime – we must look out for each other, but you don’t have to be told – you do it already, because you’re good people.

My prayers go out to the family and I hope that the 10 year old gets the mental support he will need.

For most of us, it is easy to say lock them up and throw away the key. The reality is that with prison overcrowding and lack of funds and insufficient sentencing laws for violent offenses, most serious offenders will be back on the streets.

Now a person in jail for a few years, with no form of rehabilitation, very limited resources to improve his education or any skills to be a productive member of society, what do you expect will happen when he does get it. We all see these terrible crimes everyday here in the Star and most of the time the police record is extensive, just rotating through the system. Without the above, prison becomes a college for criminals and when they come out they are better skilled to commit crimes, they have no heart or morals.

I would gladly take a tax increase to improve prisons ability to rehabilitate inmates and prevent them from committing a crime to go back in. Or, make the death penalty an actual death penalty, instead of prisoners dying of old age. This will get people thinking twice before committing crimes.

BTW-- I lived in Oxnard since 1979. A tremendous amount of good, working people.

A seemingly innocent thoroughfare like No. Oxnard Blvd., and a human scumbag miscreant shoots down an innocent person. What's happening to our world? This is very sad. Wake up America, you're witnessing the collapse of the USA right before your eyes.

Anyone know how many murders in Oxnard in '08?

Posted by nojustice_justus on December 2, 2008 at 10:13 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It was South Oxnard Blvd, but who's counting?

The collapse of the U.S. right before our eyes? LMAO. Puh-lease!
Most serious crime is dictated from inside prisons. YES! Inside prisons. The shots are called from behind bars.

Murders in Oxnard? I saw the data the other day...12 came to mind but don't quote me. Its 13 if the 12 was correct.

Insideege:

Maybe you should re-read my post, It says to PER THOUSAND PEOPLE!!!

Which means for every 1,000 people in Oxnard, 2.8 commit violent crimes, and in Ventura, per 1,000 people, 1.6 commit violent crimes!!

Does that make a little more sense to you now???? Jeez!!!

Goldcoaster...I totally love your post. It's so funny..but so true. I also believe that we have more violence here in our own United States.

dogears nice grammar there. Also, why do you want people to wake up? Why do you assume that they're sleeping in the first place?

What tragedy for this little boy. What may of crossed his mind during this horrific ordeal, makes me utterly sick.

It just amazes me how the death penalty is not enacted. Its a disgrace how prisoners are pampered. They are probably reading this now, and saying, "yeah, we're pampered you fools". And so are the friggen politicians condoning their actions.

I hope the death penalty resumes soon. Please.

For the sake of our children like this young little guy. DO SOMETHING.

I pray this little guy will make it. Its a 50/50.

You bet their reading these threads and laughing at us.

what is this towm? san andreas, gran theft auto. every day the cops, have to sit and write reports. that doesen't give them time to protect the community. but, for pay day i beat, they get paid on time. the only problem with ox pd. is that they're always in the late train. i trip out. if the streets obviously need more surveillance. why r we increasing crimes? why? why? why? are the cops scared to use the skills they have? or they don't want 2 dirty their nails? do u agree, seems it's easier to call an ambulance on a phone call away. bull, crap!

Posted by Oxnard2009 on December 5, 2008 at 7 a.m. (Suggest removal)

n0bonob1 lol what? I think it's better if you stop playing video games and more studying because even Carl "CJ" Johnson doesn't talk like that.

Of course they'll get paid on time. If they don't, then that's against the law. Who doesn't get paid on time? Even under-the-table people gets paid on time.

Why are we increasing crimes? Speak for yourself. Please explain why you think the cops are scared to use their skills.

damn.. i just noticed I spent 2 minutes replying to an illiterate gang banger. Oh well...
