Police are looking for the gunman

Police and Fire

Ventura police were looking for a gunman this morning in connection with a 3 a.m. shooting along the 100-block of West Warner Street on the west end of town.

No one was hit by the gunfire, police said.

Police said a resident looked outside after hearing gunfire and saw "the suspect running through the yard."

The resident told police the suspect fled south on Warner Street toward Olive Street.

Investigators said shots were fired at an RV trailer park in the resident's driveway. An unoccupied trailed was hit by bullets, they said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 1-800-222-8477.

Oxnard police said a vehicle was carjacked at Ventura Road and Second Street late Saturday afternoon.

Police said a bicycle struck a vehicle broadside as it was making a right turn on to Second Street about 5:30 p.m.

"When the driver and passenger got out to check on the bicyclist, two subjects jumped into the vehicle and drove away," police said.

Police chased the vehicle and arrested the driver, Omar Quintana, 23, on suspicion of carjacking.

Police were unable to find the other person or the bicyclist. The incident remained under investigation Monday morning.

A vehicle was on fire on East Hillcrest Drive underneath the Highway 23 overpass in Thousand Oaks this morning. No further information was available from the Ventura County Fire Department.

Public records show that Quintana has appeared in Superior Court a total of 23 times since the age of 18. That covers only Ventura County. He is a convicted felon. Law enforcement has done an admirable job of catching him, but the legislature and courts have failed us in that he was on the streets to terrorize yet another person.

Liberal judges are meeting, today I believe, to determine if overcrowding is causing health problems amongst prisoners. In my opinion --- if the judges decide to reduce the prison population by releasing prisoners early, all of those inmates should be released as close as possible to the judge's homes. We must get liberal judges under control so that safety of legal residents takes priority over the health and welfare of prisoners.

Is it broadsided or sideswiped? Or a combination of the two and VOILA! you get 'broadswiped'.

Now that must be how we got 'ginormous' into Webster's Dictionary...
