City approves $95,962 for new carpeting in police building

The Camarillo City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to spend $95,962 on new carpeting for the Police Department building.

The building, at 3701 E. Las Posas Road, has had the same carpet for more than 10 years.

The contract with Jim Gill Flooring is for modular carpeting that uses a minimum of 35 percent post-industrial recycled material. The city's specifications also require the company to remove the old carpet and reinstall workstations once the new carpet is in place. The city had budgeted $81,000 for the project.

Camarillo contracts with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department for law enforcement.

Gee, if they had purchased the carpet at Home Depot, they could have had it installed for only $199.00.

Its a waste of taxpayers money. Camarillo is going insane. first 50K for an environmental review for the proposed prison hospital, then another 50k for the economic review of the same facility. now its 96k for carpet atthe police headquaters.

I just wonder...is the police facility as big as the Houston astrodome to have such an exorbitant price tag??? I though the place was no bigger than 6000 feet? How much is the square yard? how long does the carpet last?

I think they should just put tile, or marble floors. Its expensive only one time, but then, they don't have to replace it every five years or so. Besides, I though the city had a maintenace crew?? don't they know how to buy carpet, and install it???

well, I think someone needs psychological treatment soon.
