SoCal Edison meeting to focus on substation plan
Southern California Edison will hold a community meeting today to present its plans to build a substation to serve Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and nearby unincorporated Ventura County areas.
The Presidential Substation Open House will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Lundring Events Center at the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center at California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road.
Edison representatives will be on hand to answer questions and hear community concerns about the substation that is proposed for Olsen Road, east of Country Club Road.
Power company officials expect to file their application with the state Public Utilities Commission in December.
The substation will not be staffed and will include a 4 1/2-mile-long subtransmission line that will connect it with two other substations.
The project is described as a low-profile distribution substation that would allow high-voltage electricity to be reduced to a lower voltage so it could be distributed to homes and businesses.
Three of the area's substations, two of which are in Thousand Oaks and a third in Simi Valley, will likely exceed their capacity in 2010.
While those substations will continue to operate, the new facility will meet demand for 10 more years.
