Francine Sprigel, Thousand Oaks
A worker for all ages
Francine is a senior analyst with the Thousand Oaks Community and Cultural Services Department responsible for the management and operation of the Council on Aging, the Teen Commission and the Arts Council.
Francine creatively develops programs to get youth and seniors excited about their projects and respective centers. She revamped the Senior Lunch Nutrition program and named it the "Marquee Café," complete with a theater theme. Its attendance and satisfaction by the seniors has increased tremendously. She accomplished this while completing her master's degree in Public Policy and Administration from California Lutheran University.
Under her guidance the Council on Aging has been conducting an Outreach program for seniors at various venues and events, as well as distributing a senior survey to over 5,000 seniors and baby boomers to develop a Senior Needs Assessment and Master Plan (SAMP). Francine developed a Web site for this program and coordinated the development of a computer-aided survey data analysis system. The SAMP, when completed, is expected to be a model for planning future programs for senior communities locally and in the State.
Not only does Francine devote unpaid hours to her regular job, she volunteers hundreds of hours to worthy causes and donates
her time at fund-raisers including Tour de Cure, Hospice of the Conejo, Kids
and the Arts Fun Run, Relay for Life, Alzheimers Association Memory Walk,
Down Syndrome Buddy Walk, and more.
She always has great sense of humor and a positive, caring attitude. She truly loves her job and heartily states this often.
