Oak Park begins new project to landscape median
Cost of Lindero Canyon Road planting, other work is $8,000

Improvement of median landscaping in Oak Park continues with a new project on Lindero Canyon Road north of Golden Eagle Drive.
The planting is occurring along several blocks within public access areas studied by the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council's landscaping committee, said council Vice Chairman Mike Paule. The committee consulted with Greg Epstein of Oak Park, owner of Enhanced Landscaping, the vendor hired by Ventura County for the project, said Paule.
After workers Tuesday tore out what Paule called "ratty" growth, they prepared the soil to plant 106 iceberg roses and 212 society garlic roses. Epstein said he expected the work to be completed within several days.
The landscaping committee took into account water needs. "Due to anticipated cutbacks of water due to the ongoing drought, we felt it prudent not to plant turf, which requires more water to maintain," Paule said.
Total cost of the work in this section is about $8,000.
The improvements follow 34 new trees planted along Kanan Road several months ago, at a gateway into the community of more than 14,000 residents.
Still to be completed, Paule said, are two center medians on Kanan Road in front of Agoura High School. Those medians use reclaimed water, but workers will hold off on installing shrubs and turf there because of the pending relining of water pipes this fall.
"The relining might cause water disruptions. We will revisit the remediation of these two medians next spring once the pipe relining project is complete," Paule said.
