A contractor soldering plumbing during a remodel started a fire that caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to a Ventura home Wednesday afternoon, authorities said this morning.
Firefighters responding to a report of a structure fire in the 3000 block of Seaview Avenue at 2:07 p.m. found a fire in the exterior wall of a two-story home, said Battalion Chief David Frost of the Ventura City Fire Department.
Firefighters broke open the wall and put out the fire within about 10 minutes, Frost said.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the soldering work ignited combustibles including wood supports and wiring in the wall, Frost said.

But of course, the soldering individual had water, and a fire extinguisher at hand , with a fire watch, while performing this task?
Does the term "low bid" mean anything now?
