Morning Report: Ventura man arrested after sailboat runs aground

Police and Fire: A 50-year-old Ventura man was arrested on suspicion of drunken boating last night after his sailboat ran aground in Oxnard, authorities said.

The sailboat ran aground at Mandalay Beach about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, said Fireman Joe Davis of the Coast Guard’s Channel Islands Station.

The Ventura man owns the 28-foot sailboat and was manning it. A friend was also aboard.

Firefighters helped the stranded sailors off the boat, which was stuck about 15 feet off shore, said Battalion Chief Brad Windsor of the Oxnard Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.

The Ventura man was booked into Oxnard’s detention facility on suspicion of misdemeanor boating under the influence, then released on his own recognizance, said Cmdr. Tom Chronister of the Oxnard Police Department.

Simi Valley police this morning are investigating a commercial burglary, authorities said.

The burglary was reported at 4:56 a.m. at 1770 Tapo Street, said Sgt. Alan Thompson of the Simi Valley Police.

Further details were not immediately available.

----------

Traffic: At 8:36 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was not reporting any traffic accidents or hazards on county roadways.

----------

Weather: Mostly sunny and warm weather is expected throughout the county today, the National Weather Service reported.

Some low clouds and fog are hanging around the coast this morning, but they are expected to give way to sunny conditions later today.

There is no detail about the Sailboat issue. I guess the headline must tell the whole story.

The commercial burglary on Tapo--- no info in the article about the business. Here is the irony...it appears to be Crimestoppers Security Products.

Amazing how many people who wouldn't ordinarily drink and drive, think it's ok to operate a boat while drinking. Especially on the ocean...I would want all my wits about me out there, it can be pretty scary!

Boating and drinking is the same as drinking and driving. I most place in the US they carry the same penelty and should. Being drunk in a lake, or ocean is just plain dumb. The trouble is they go out with a few beers, but because of the sun and other thing it effect them in a hurry. Just don't do that, drive a car or boat drunk go to jail .
