Liquor store clerk beaten in robbery attempt

More from Crime on the Streets
A clerk at a Ventura liquor store was beaten Tuesday night by a man who tried to rob the business, police said.
The assailant walked into College Liquor, 4220 Telegraph Road, just after 9 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk, police said.
When the clerk refused to open the register, the man began punching him and knocked him to the ground.
The clerk called police and tried to grab the attacker to prevent him from escaping.
At that point, the attacker pointed a handgun at the clerk and continued hitting him, police said. He then left the store and ran westbound on Telegraph Road.
The clerk, a 62-year-old Ventura resident, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Police did not say how much, if any, money was taken.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call detectives at 339-4394. To make an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. Tipsters who give information leading to an arrest could receive up to a $1,000 reward.

@All: Is it me or are we getting more news about beatings, robberies and other ill things around the county?

I am amazed that this poor old man did not get murdered during this messy robbery. God was watching over him. If you are being robbed just give them the money your life is worth more than 200 bucks. You only get to live once.

Where do these reporters get their information??..Funny how this story got twisted being I was the one that called 911 and probably helped scare the robber off when I pulled up to go in and buy milk. Heaven forbid (had this robber had more time) what he might have done. I frequent that store regularly as the people are always so nice..I felt so bad to see the clerk harmed and I have my eye out for the guy who did this (remember I saw you!) and I'm sure this person was local...I have faith you will be caught!

I stopped in tonight on the way home to check on him..he's back at work and I'm guessing he was yesterday too. He was thankful and I only wish I was able to have done more but with a gun involved I couldn't risk it. I'm just thankful I stopped someone from being killed or badly injured that night..which includes myself. Not sure why the police didn't provide a description but probably because it's a fairly generic one..young white male/tall/thin build/short (or buzzed) light hair/jeans/white t-shirt or wife beater and he used a gray t-shirt to wrap around his lower part of his face like a mask.
