Alarm parts stolen from Simi security store

Someone broke into a security equipment store in Simi Valley this morning and made off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of alarm parts, police said.

Police responded at 4:56 a.m. to a burglary alarm at Crimestopper Security Products Inc., 1770 S. Tapo Street, and discovered someone had entered the business through a hole cut in the wall of the building, said Lt. David Livingstone of the Simi Valley Police Department.

An estimated $70,000 in alarm components were reported stolen, Livingstone said.

Officers did not find any suspects at the scene.

Lol...I was just messing with you! Don't want you to be lost now ;)

this sure doesn't speak very well for their products, does it?

Posted by Relvd98 on August 21, 2008 at 10:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Really, out of all the places one can steal from, it happens to be a security store! What would be even more moronic is if the store didn't have surveillance to record the robbery!

or it could be an inside job, junior

about two weeks ago, I was at BOA and two guys approached us trying to sell us some home entertainment systems. Anyone else get approached? They gave us some wack story, sounds like Alarm systems will be next on sale.

Posted by Latina_805 on August 21, 2008 at 11:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

jr. did you buy anything?

Posted by Latina_805 on August 21, 2008 at 11:26 a.m. (Suggest removal)

lol. I went home and looked at ebay, and ebay had them for much more. I thought about it too.

Posted by vcsexplorer11 on August 21, 2008 at 11:31 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Assuming they actual had a alarm they should have used motion sensors. I bet they got lazy and had only magnetic contacts on the door.

Who would of guessed the theives would cut a hole? surely not the crimestoppers

Posted by brwnbear on August 21, 2008 at 11:49 a.m. (Suggest removal)

YES, junior insurance would have to pay for all stolen merchandise, plus through a hole in the wall. It sounds fishy.
Latina_805 the guys selling you the home entertainment systems, did they tell you the wherehouse gave them more systems then they were suppose to get so they have to get rid of them before they went back.

Posted by Latina_805 on August 21, 2008 at 11:54 a.m. (Suggest removal)

No brwnbear they told me that their employer didn't pay them, so they stole the stuff. LOL

Simi Valley often makes the list of the safest places to live in the U.S. They need to revise that list . . .

Posted by malker1da on August 21, 2008 at 12:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Maybe the security place wasn't paying their employees either!

This is also a symptom of California's lousy building codes. Other states require firewalls (brick or stone) between business units reaching to the rafters. Those walls also keep thieves from accessing Unit B from Unit A via the wall or the ceiling. Wonder if these guys were the same ones who've been ripping off bank and credit union ATMs in our area by going through their walls.... And motion sensors are dirt cheap!!!

Posted by RebelGal on August 21, 2008 at 12:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I just get a kick out of the fact the guy cut a hole in the wall to get in.

Posted by wdwinder on August 21, 2008 at 12:49 p.m. (Suggest removal)

ummm, the story says the cops responded to an alarm. What do you want to bet that 'response' took 45 minutes?

Posted by camarillomomma on August 21, 2008 at 1:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

humm. I wouldn't trust buying any electronic item from walk up sales people. There's no warranty, no receipt even. Even if it is a good deal! ya know? You run that chance of being ripped off! but hey that's just my opinion! :)

Posted by Latina_805 on August 21, 2008 at 1:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

yeah camgurl that's what I was thinking too. No receipt, no guarantee. They said it was like a $4,000 home entertainment system and was asking for only $600. I thought about it but then I didn't want to get home and it not work.

Posted by camarillomomma on August 21, 2008 at 1:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Exactly!
you're better off going to Fry's or Best buy!

Posted by brwnbear on August 21, 2008 at 1:37 p.m. (Suggest removal)

This is all real fishy about the hole in the wall. The reason I say this is because to cut a hole through a wall you would need a high power tool to cut through the stucco. That would usually be real noisy. It had to be planned out.

Posted by Latina_805 on August 21, 2008 at 1:40 p.m. (Suggest removal)

plus it had to be a big hole, enough for a body to go through.

Posted by brwnbear on August 21, 2008 at 1:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If your going to buy from a walk up sales person, it's better to just donate the money some where else.
